I would like to use FTP over TLS on SliTaz. I’ve installed proftpd with the following command:

tazpkg get-install proftpd

I’m used to start and stop programs on SliTaz with
/etc/init.d/program start or stop
but I can’t figure out how to start proftpd because there is no
/etc/init.d/proftpd
. I figured out I can start Proftpd by typing proftp but there I can't find a way to stop or restart.

The proftpd config is still default and I tried to connect with FileZilla a normal connection is working now but I would like to use TLS over FTP.

I know that I need mod_tls for TLS support and that it is not build by default, but I do not know how to build it.

How can I configure proftpd on SliTaz?

Glib and glib-dev are installed. As for the missing file '/home/slitaz/wok/tazweb/taz/tazweb-*/receipt', it is not there. I tried to create it and ut the receipt from /var/lib/tazpkg/installed/tazweb there, but it get erased when I enter the 'cook' command.
This is my first effort at building a slitaz package, so I'm sure I'm missing something.
Also, since my purpose is to reconfigure tazweb before building the package, where should I put the modified sources and the new main.c file?

Hello,
Lately I have bee experiencing something strange on a fresh Slitaz install on a 64 bt laptop.
After installing and removing some packages (games, midori) using the tazpanel, some programs ceased to work due to missing libraries.
For instance, if I launch firefox from the terminal I get:
@slitaz:~$ firefox
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/firefox-17.0.11esr/libxpcom.so:
libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.

this happened before too, as if, when removing a package, tazpkg removes also some libraries that are needed by other packages.
I have tried to remove firefox, clean the cache and reinstall it, and got the same error.
How can I fix and avoid this occurrence?

First, although I don't use the
install
option, the cooked packages are installed (this doesn't happen with Rolling-core64). So, I had to modify /usr/bin/cook to avoid this because installing glibc breaks the chroot: messages

busybox: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This done, glibc and glibc-base seem to be compiled and packaged correctly despite some error messages, it is not possible to compile glibc-dev and glibc-locale (
ERROR: empty package
).
I compiled a few other packages for test; I can see sometimes some error messages but packages are created.
Where can the problem come from for glibc-dev an glibc-locale?

Hello marcelocripe,

I apologize for my lack of knowledge in Linux distributions...

Every linux user had to start one day...

Is there a tutorial showing how to compile after unzipping the ".tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz" programs?

Not in the SliTaz documentation. But generally, you'll find a README file in the unzipped archives with all the necessary explanations.

To compile .rpm or .deb to .tazpkg, you need to open the terminal in the directory where the program to be compiled is and insert the command without quotes: "tazpkg convert <entire-package-name>"? Is correct?

Yes (but note the command does not compile the "alien" package but converts it in a SliTaz package)

Your example with firefox

# tazpkg install firefox-official-en-BR-76.0.tazpkg
{Enter}
from the directory containing the package will install only
firefox-official-en-BR-76.0.tazpkg, not its dependencies even if they are in the same directory.
The package manager will look for dependencies in the cache (Each time you install a package from the mirror, the package manager copy it in the cache
/var/cache/tazpkg/5.0/packages
); if it does'nt find it, it'll try to download it from the mirror. If there isn't any connection, the package manager won't install any dependencies...

Is there a program information file indicating which dependencies are necessary for the installation?

Better than this; ie for firefox-official:

tazpkg depends firefox-official

will display the tree of all dependencies, and sub, sub sub... dependencies...

"Probably the best way is to copy all the packages on an external HD / USB / DVD and modify the path to the mirror in / var / lib / tazpkg / mirror for each computer."
I couldn't understand your explanation above, I don't know how to do it and where to make this change.

As seen above, the package manager copy all the packages installed from the mirror in the cache. This can be useful when working with computers without connection:

run SliTaz from a Live session on a computer connected to the internet;

recharge the packages list:

tazpkg recharge

install all the packages you want to install on the non connected computers;

copy all the packages contained in the cache
/var/cache/tazpkg/5.0/packages
on an external support;

copy the files (but not the <installed> directory) excepted the files installed.info and installed.md5 contained in /var/lib/tazpkg

paste these files in the /var/lib/tazpkg of each non connected computer;

paste the packages in a directory (say /home/mirror) of each non connected computer;

in each non connected computer, change the mirror: from a root terminal, type

tazpkg -sm

and type
/home/mirror
after the prompt
New mirror(s) URL:

Now on the non connected computers, the package manager will search for packages to install in /home/mirror :)

Hope I have been clear enough. Answers to your other requests in a next post.

Have a nice week end.

It it not possible to make a custom kernel and use tazlito to make a custom iso on Version 4 of Slitaz. This is largely due to tazlito taking care of dependencies automatically and if I had to say it does not a very good job.

I have a SOC based board with amd geode hardware. There is no agp device anywhere to be found on the hardware however each and every build, even base, brings in inux-agp and linux-drm and mesa installs too. If this is an soc based board why does slitaz team assume that I need countless libraries that will never be used?

The impact of tazlito not asking me if I approve of the hard dependencies your team has improperly set I get a non working iso every time. This is because yourkernel module packages come in and foil me kernel and all of my work.

One more..... If used tazlito to get-flavor jwm. I added a few xorg packages to support xvkbd and when I built the iso talito downloaded all of lxde and deps as part of. the iso!!! Why? Who thought this would be a good idea?

Still cant make tazpkg on a kernel in v5, your stock kernels are not adequate. I need to build my own but tazlito is set to think for me and in many cases I know better but it does the wrong thing anyways.

Whats the chance the developer of tazlito can add an option to all versions of tazltio and slitaz (I am trying to use 4 but.... due to many shortcomings I still need to try to figure out usb based install and no autologin on v3). Long story short update tazlito with a switch that asks for dependency resolution. I literally cant use your tools based on incorrect rules. JWM flavor downloads lxde if I add xvkbd. Slitaz-v5 is not working correctly with kernel building and make tazpkg. V3 cant autologin is installed as a usb live with syslinux as bootloader. You guys say you support old hardware but syslinux v4 does not work on old hardware. I have to hack it in to my images, it works but other things in slitaz do not.

Would love to use your operating system but you have chosen paths and rules that do not allow it to work for me.

".tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz are not packages but source files you have to uncompress them and compile them before installing."

# tazpkg install firefox-official-pt-BR-76.0.tazpkg {Enter}

"Yes, it possible to download packages from the mirror and then install them manually on other computers; the problem is you need to know all the dependences you need for each package you want to install..."

"Probably the best way is to copy all the packages on an external HD/USB/DVD and modify the path to the mirror in /var/lib/tazpkg/mirror for each computer."

"A solution consist in downloading the ISO (6GB !) containing all the packages (md5) from http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/cooking/"

Eu baixei a packages-cooking.iso do link:
http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/cooking/packages-cooking.iso.

# tazpkg install dvd+rw-tools-7.1.tazpkg {Enter}

"An other solution consist in downloading all the packages directly on your external HD. From SliTaz, you need to install first wget:
tazpkg -gi wget
then
wget --recursive --no-parent --no-check-certificate https://distro.ibiblio.org/slitaz/packages/cooking/"

"How are the programs organized? Where are the programs installed on SliTaz located?

Not sure I correctly understood; can you be more precise please."

Linux 64-bit
https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-latest-ssl&os=linux64&lang=pt-BR
ou

Linux 32-bit
https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-latest-ssl&os=linux&lang=pt-BR

marcelocripe

----------------

Hello Ceel, how are you?

Thank you for answering my questions. I apologize for my lack of knowledge in Linux distributions, my job opportunities always took me to MS Windows, currently I am able to start my studies and dedicate myself to SliTaz GNU / Linux.

I don't know if I can keep asking in this same post.

I need to confirm some information that I still have doubts about your answers.

".tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz are not packages but source files you have to uncompress them and compile them before installing."

Is there a tutorial showing how to compile after unzipping the ".tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz" programs?

To compile .rpm or .deb to .tazpkg, you need to open the terminal in the directory where the program to be compiled is and insert the command without quotes: "tazpkg convert <entire-package-name>"?

Is correct?

I do not know if I was able to understand the local installation of programs contained in the instructions http://hg.slitaz.org/tazpkg/raw-file/tip/doc/tazpkg.pt.html

I'll use firefox as an example:

Accessing the page http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/, with any computer, with any operating system, download firefox-official-pt-BR-76.0.tazpkg, I will need to copy this file and paste it in a directory from any computer using SliTaz without internet access. Open the terminal in the folder containing firefox-official-pt-BR-76.0.tazpkg and its dependencies, if any, apply the command:
# tazpkg install firefox-official-en-BR-76.0.tazpkg {Enter}

Is correct? Will you install firefox-official-en-BR-76.0? If there are dependencies in the same directory, will they be installed?

"Yes, it possible to download packages from the mirror and then install them manually on other computers; the problem is you need to know all the dependencies you need for each package you want to install ..."

Is there a program information file indicating which dependencies are necessary for the installation?

"Probably the best way is to copy all the packages on an external HD / USB / DVD and modify the path to the mirror in / var / lib / tazpkg / mirror for each computer."

I couldn't understand your explanation above, I don't know how to do it and where to make this change.

"The solution consists of downloading the ISO (6GB!) Containing all the packages (md5) from http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/cooking/"

I downloaded packages-cooking.iso from the link:
http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/cooking/packages-cooking.iso.

Does this ISO (packages-cooking.iso) also have SliTaz Rolling to be installed on a computer or notebook?

In the ISO (packages-cooking.iso) I noticed that it has a directory that contains programs and extensions, can I copy the files on computers without internet access to install manually using the command below?

# tazpkg install dvd + rw-tools-7.1.tazpkg {Enter}

If the ISO (packages-cooking.iso) has SliTaz Rolling with the entire repository, I can use it to install SliTaz and the programs that are needed on computers or notebooks without internet access. Is what I understand correct? If I understand correctly, this ISO is ideal for doing maintenance on a computer network (it is my case).

"An other solution consists of downloading all the packages directly on your external HD. From SliTaz, you need to install first wget:
tazpkg -gi wget
then
wget --recursive --no-parent --no-check-certificate https://distro.ibiblio.org/slitaz/packages/cooking/ "

I could not understand the text above, what is the use of the wget program?

Thank you for informing the text that you did not understand, the Google translation is sometimes meaningless or difficult to understand.

"How are the programs organized? Where are the programs installed on SliTaz located?

Not sure I correctly understood; can you be more need please. "

SliTaz follows the directory system similar to most other distributions, when installing programs it spreads parts of the installation files to different directories, uses the FHS - Filesystem Hierarchy Standard. Is correct?

SliTaz would be easier to understand if each program was organized in its respective directory, containing the program and all necessary dependencies, similar to what is provided by the Mozilla company at the link: https://www.mozilla.org/pt-BR / firefox / linux /

64-bit Linux
https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-latest-ssl&os=linux64&lang=pt-BR
or

Linux 32-bit
https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-latest-ssl&os=linux&lang=pt-BR

In some tests I did on other Linux distributions that consume a lot of RAM (more than 1GB of RAM to open Linux), it was possible to unzip firefox-76.0.1.tar.bz2 and run firefox, but as these distributions require a lot of memory and the most current processors are not enough to put all computers in use, be they the oldest or the newest ones. It is sad to see so many Linux distributions following the same path as Microsoft, the path of programmed technology obsolescence.

That way it would be possible to have installed (or simply unzip, copy and paste) programs, allowing, for example, the user to have two identical programs with different versions in different folders, being only necessary to create a shortcut icon for the end user to be able to open or execute the program without having to access the program folder.

When the user no longer wants a program, it would be necessary to delete the program's folder and shortcut icon.

In the practical tests I did, using a child and an adult, both with minimal computer skills, separated, due to Covid-19, using SliTaz, they informed me that it is undoubtedly the easiest to use. Main reported, "it is easier because it is translated into Brazilian Portuguese" and "it is easy to use due to the similarities with MS Windows operating system".

Thank you so much for helping me.

SliTaz packages have
.tazpkg
extension. Packages for Rolling are available at http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/
You can also use packages from other distros (.rpm, .deb) after you have converted them for slitaz with the command:

tazpkg convert
<entire-package-name>
but you should find all that you want in the SliTaz mirror :)
More information about the package manager at
(english) http://hg.slitaz.org/tazpkg/raw-file/tip/doc/tazpkg.en.html
(portuguese) http://hg.slitaz.org/tazpkg/raw-file/tip/doc/tazpkg.pt.html

Is it possible to just download the packages with a computer connected to the internet, copy them to a flash drive and later install the packages manually on other computers without an internet connection? How to download and install manually?

Yes, it possible to download packages from the mirror and then install them manually on other computers; the problem is you need to know all the dependences you need for each package you want to install...
Probably the best way is to copy all the packages on an external HD/USB/DVD and modify the path to the mirror in
/var/lib/tazpkg/mirror
for each computer.

What is the link to the SliTaz repository so that I can download the complete packages with their respective dependencies?

A solution consist in downloading the ISO (6GB !) containing all the packages (md5) from http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/cooking/

An other solution consist in downloading all the packages directly on your external HD. From SliTaz, you need to install first wget:

tazpkg -gi wget

then

wget --recursive --no-parent --no-check-certificate https://distro.ibiblio.org/slitaz/packages/cooking/

This can be long, depending of your connection to the internet.

How are the programs organized? Where are the programs installed on SliTaz located?

Not sure I correctly understood; can you be more precise please.

Desde já agradeço a quem puder me ajudar.

Title: How to install packages in SliTaz 5.0 Rolling (weekly) version 23 May 2020 on a computer or notebook without internet access?

Hello dear colleagues.

I'm starting with SliTaz 5.0 Rolling (weekly) version 23 May 2020, I managed to install it on a computer, I was impressed with this operating system, very beautiful, light (mainly), consumes about 110 MB of RAM, has translation into several languages, including Brazilian Portuguese, file manager and other basic programs needed by any user. This operating system is certainly the direction to be taken to save many computers and notebooks that are being rendered useless due to the system requirements required by MS Windows and other Linux distributions.

I need to install application programs on computers or notebooks that do not have internet access, that is, I need to install packages offline.

The main objective is to reuse donated or discarded computers / notebooks that have about 512 MB up to 2 GB of RAM with DDR1 or DDR2 technology and Intel processors: Pentium V, Celeron, Atom and AMD processors: Athlon, Duron and etc.

I have some doubts that I did not find explanations or answers in this forum or in the documentation at http://doc.slitaz.org/pt:start.

Is it possible to install packages in which formats or extensions (.tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz, .dep and etc.)?

Does SliTaz have its own package or does it use various package formats for installing programs? What is the format of SliTaz packages?

Is it possible to just download the packages with a computer connected to the internet, copy them to a flash drive and later install the packages manually on other computers without an internet connection? How to download and install manually?

What is the link to the SliTaz repository so that I can download the complete packages with their respective dependencies?

How are the programs organized? Where are the programs installed on SliTaz located?

Creating remastered versions of SliTaz 5.0 is not the best option for me, considering that I will be able to transport the downloaded packages on a DVD, CD or USB stick and install on each computer or notebook even if they do not have internet access.

I thank anyone who can help me.
