@viridio, knowing what the error message is the starting point but I suspect you are right that your card has a problem with the nv driver. Did you try nvidia non-free? nv is supposed to be a better driver for nVidia cards in Slitaz but still it is worth a try - "tazhw setup nvidia --non-free" from command line will install it.

@gdesilva
ok i'll try that and post back, but what's the point of installing tazx nv when slitaz 4.0 already comes with xorg-server and nv to be loaded at boot time. I think it's more probable that my video card is not supported by this driver (any way to check?) although this model is not new at all.

Did you check the Xorg.0.log after installing the nvidia driver using tazx? It should tell you why X cannot start. Perhaps, you may want to give it a try again and post the log here...

I tried both installing tazx nv and booting an image with vesa and intel removed leaving only xorg-xf86-video-nv-2.1.18 but nothing. Can't think of anything else to try.

Hi all this great comunity!!!. I've been usin Slitaz for quite a while now both stable and cooking/rolling. Nowadays I've been trying to live-boot the 4.0 final version of Slitaz but it takes me directly to text mode login without an attempt to show me slim or anything graphical. I tried Core and Gtkonly in case the problem came from the free drivers. My video card is a NVIDIA GT430. I've tried several things from other posts like 'nomodeset' but nothing...
In case they are nessesary here are some dumps that may be useful:

# uname -a
Linux slitaz 2.6.37-slitaz #2 SMP Wed Mar 7 10:36:39 CET 2012 i686 GNU/Linux

# lspci -nn | grep VGA
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] [10de:0de1] (rev a1)

Xorg.0.log

Xorg.1.log

Any help would be appreciated.
