Hello Dear Comrades!
Many thanks to all who contribute to make and maintain Slitaz. It's truly a wonderment and has been my main desktop system for the past 2-3 years. I prefer it to MacOSX. It is a beautiful thing to have my old computers run fast and reliably using Slitaz. Thanks!
I searched and read through many pages of forum entries and the install guides for Slitaz 4 but I didn't see much about upgrading a Slitaz 3 installation (on my hard drive). I see that the Slitaz 4 live CD offers an upgrade option. Is that the best choice? Is there an alternate method to upgrade, such as just changing the repository in Tazpkg to point to the Slitaz 4 package repository (I think I saw that mentioned somewhere too). Also, there were some forum comments that suggested Slitaz 4's upgrade process might overwrite the "home" directory, or perhaps reformat the target install partition though it wasn't clear that this is something I should expect.
I realize I should back everything up of course but even then it would be helpful to know what to expect and any advice from those who have upgraded from Slitaz 3 to Slitaz 4.
I very much hope to avoid wiping everything clean and starting over since I have so many packages installed. I also had to fudge some apps that were installed using vendor install scripts -- e.g., the Cisco AnyConnect SSL VPN client and the NoMachine NX client. Perhaps VirtualBox as well, though it seems there is now a package for that.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
