I tried Slitaz 5.0 rolling release yesterday on some old hardware for the first time. I really like the look of it and it has some great features.
However, I spent a whole day just trying to figure out how to install LibreOffice, and other software. I repeatedly used other forum posts on this topic to help me, but these did not work.
Please could someone post an easy-to-follow tutorial on this.

I had a similar problem recently which I spent an age trying to resolve but the solution was simple in the end. Go to

and download and install the appropriate package.

I assume you know how to install a tazpkg using terminal.

Yes, I saw this, but still no luck. I notice in the link that you say you have only basic skills - well mine are even more basic than yours - I feel a total newbie.
Yes I can install a tazpkg using terminal, after looking at the handbook, following Slitaz install, and used terminal to update all pre-installed packages.
The problem is that I find the thread in the link you gave somewhat disjointed (noone's fault) and hard to follow (again my poor Slitaz skills).
Do you use [code] [/code] tags for showing terminal output more clearly in the forum. If yes, I might post what I'm getting from terminal which might illustrate the point more easily.
I still wish someone would write a clear no-nonesense tutorial for installing LibreOffice for newbies, as an office suite is key element for most PC users. It might also encourage more people to join Slitaz ...

I abandoned Slitaz5, and replaced it with a Slitaz4 install: perhaps it's a bit easier (more stable) than the rolling version 5 ...
Then I downloaded LibreOffice-5.4.0.tazpkg and placed it at /home/tux/Desktop/ and installed the package from there using:
'tazpkg install LibreOffice-5.4.0.tazpkg'
Using the GUI, I checked 'Office' under 'Applications' and the full LibreOffice suite is now listed there - good :-)
However, when I click on any of the LibreOffice applications, they do not open - they just flash up momentarily on the screen.
In the TazPanel, I checked to see if LibreOffice is now listed in 'Office' under 'My Packages'. However, it appears to be absent.
I thought maybe that the 'menu launcher' was missing so I attempted to install this in terminal as shown by Alex K in the second link you gave me, using:
'tux@slitaz:~$ su
Password:
root@slitaz:/home/tux# rm -f /usr/bin/soffice /usr/bin/libreoffice5.4.0
root@slitaz:/home/tux# ln -sf /usr/lib/libreoffice5.4.0/program/soffice /usr/bin/libreoffice5.4.0
root@slitaz:/home/tux#'
... however this didn't work :-(
I checked the TazPanel again (as above), and LibreOffice 1.2 now appears installed in 'Office' under 'My Packages' , though the LibreOffice applications still don't open when I click on them under Menu.
So what do I need to do to make them open fully?
Am I missing some dependencies?
I couldn't find an 'extras' package for LibreOffice version 5.4.0 - does one exist?
