Well I managed to find something aplay will test for us, however, no sound coming out of the middle jack (green) where I have iPod earbuds plugged in.
Here is the output...
tux@slitaz:~/Desktop$ aplay -D hw:0,0 004.wav
Playing WAVE '004.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Stereo
tux@slitaz:~/Desktop$
Edit:
p.s. I managed to grab the right .wav as you were trying to upload for me :)
Ok, I've also managed to downlolad your upload of the robot.wav
Here is the output...
tux@slitaz:~/Desktop$ aplay -D hw:0,0 robot.wav
Playing WAVE 'robot.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
tux@slitaz:~/Desktop$
However no sound coming out of these little tiny earbuds :|
Edit:
I managed to find a ICH5 with AD1985 picture, just to be sure Im sane here and plugging my little earbuds into the correct jack :)))

Plugged into the green one :)
OK, this is good news, sort of... - at least aplay is playing the song without errors. You may want to re-check your headset is plugged into the correct port. In fact my sound card here is an ICH4 - Intel 82801DB-ICH4 and hence we are running almost the same configs. Only difference I can see so far is that robot.wav which I have uploaded has a sample rate of : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo and yours is 48000Hz. For whatever its worth download robot.wav and see what happens.
What more can I say? Nothing much, apart from testing the earbuds on a different player and connecting the lineout to a known working speaker. Is the sound card working with another distro? If you can easily get hold of another sound card it may be worth trying out with it. Sorry cannot think of anything else at this stage. Keep us posted of your findings - it may help someone else.
Fair enough, so far so good, I am not sure If I want to give up on it as I believe it should be working without any hicups! Eeek...
So I've tested both robot.wav you provided and mine that I downloaded, aplay playd both just fine, the only differance was the size of .wav
Mine is roughly around 2.9mb
Edit:
Fair Enough, just as I thought to begin with, SliTaz configured this ICH5 with AD1985 correctly at boot, so it should be playing just about anything in alsaplayer. Perhaps the jacks are not working right, but I shall try to do some more testing.
Erbuds have been tested and in working condition, however I have never tested the soundcard itself on another Distro. Perhaps this is the next step. I shall report back with anything new :)
Thank you once again!
Also, check that you have the following modules loaded...
snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer (command 'lsmod' will show you the modules currently in use)
Edit:
Modules snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer seem to be loaded correctly :)
Hi Adnan,
Firstly. On my desktop's board I have (from top to bottom):
I was never saw green connector in the middle. Make sure, maybe it's factory mismatch in your board.
Secondly. Please, show us screenshot of your alsamixer with F5 pressed. (how to make screenshots)
Enlarge your terminal if it needed, or make several screenshots to show us all.
I can't remember exactly, but I was deal with soundcard with selectable (switchable) connectors, when each connector can work as line out or mic in. There should be a switchers in the alsamixer (or anywhere else?)
@Aleksej, In fact I have a ICH4 unit and the line out (green) is in the middle. Yes, a screenshot of alsamixer will be very useful.
I may not be able to take a picture of the ICH5 however I could do some screen shots of the alsamixer very soon. I like running SliTaz live so Im shutting the box down sometimes today as I may need to move it. :)
Thanks once again :)
p.s. the image of the ich5 i googled matches mine exactly, pinkish, greenish, blueish in that order :)
Here is aplay output again :)
tux@slitaz:~$ aplay -D hw:0,0 robot.wav
Playing WAVE 'robot.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
tux@slitaz:~$
Here are current screenshots of alsamixer :)

As you can see I went on a unmuting spre in alsamixer and raised some levels :|
@Adnan, here is something worth trying.
Start alsamixer and tab to fields like 'surround', 'spdif/p', 'mono out', 'channel', 'downmix'. Once you are in that field you can use the UP/DOWN arrows to select different settings for that particular field.
I would try changing one parameter at a time and see whether you can get sound from the speakers. In particular, it is worth fiddling with settings for channel and downmix fields.
Your card has more settings than mine but everything else looks pretty much the same as what I have set to.
Thank you everyone so much! I managed to fix Intel ICH5 sound issue :)
What I did was max out everything and unmute everything, sound seems to be coming out clear, so maxing out things doesnt seem like a bad idea after all :D
Thank you everyone once again!
EDIT:
Here are final screenshots of my Alsamixer

Happy fixxing! If anyone ends up having similar or some issue with ICH5 :)
EDIT:
Playing with alsamixer a little more, I found out that 'Master S' has a lot to do with sound coming out of this ICH5
EDIT: THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT
I have my earbuds plugged into the light blue jack! Which is the one all the way to the right, not the green one! I have a image i posted in one of my previous replays an exact image of what the back of my ICH5 looks like :)
It does not work plugged into the green one!!! :)
I noticed that you have also changed some of the alsamixer field settings and probably this could have been the reason why you got it going rather than due to maxing out the levels. May be worthwhile to keep a record of the current settings and drop down the levels to a reasonable level just to confirm this.
However, I am baffled by the fact that you are getting sound via line-in jack! As I said earlier, I have a PC with a ICH4 and I have my speakers connected to line-out (green). I am sure you will eventually work out the reason but for now enjoy your music via the ICH5! Well done.
