Is there anything i can do to get ppdev support ?
(seems to be the parallel port support module required to use the parallel port...)
Is that a compilation option, or a new module that could be loaded with modprob ?
thanks

Both cooking and 4.0 :
root@slitaz:/home/tux# zcat /proc/config.gz | grep -i PPDEV
# CONFIG_PPDEV is not set
Compile directions here:
http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:kernel
Will try that !
it sort of worked
i could get a /dev/parport0
but, hplip (on slitaz) does not support/recognise parallel ports
I guess i should recompile hplip, too...
is there a receipe to compile hplip for slitaz ? like the one you gave me for the kernel....
Is there a generic way to recompile packages as they have been set for slitaz ? is there a repository with the sources ?
Thanks
Thanks
Recompiled hplip with parallel support.

it almost works
- installed within minutes
- xsane DOES scan from my MFP (on parallel port)
- i cannot install the printer, the ppd for my laserjet 1100A is not included in the stable distro
(it is included in the cooking file, but I'd rather test on the stable version first...)
i tried installing the cooking file on the stable version, it does install and the ppd file is there, but it will no print : in cups it fails with the following message:
"/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed"
If you cannot provide the stable complete version with hp laserjet 1100a ppd file, then i will upgrade to cooking...
Thanks
/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed is a frequent hplip error
Look at /var/log/cups/error_log for reason why it's failing then google it to hopefully find solution.
An alternative is to try gutenprint driver hp-lj_1100a for the laserjet 1100A
why not use the proper version of the ppd file first ?
I already tried two diffenrent ppd file from other versions that i had, and get different errors each time; including the one i ran happily with slitaz 3: it seems the back ends are not just interchangeables...
Hence I REALLY hope i may have a better chance with the "real" ppd file....
(and i installed gutenrprint package and there is no hp-jl_1100 diver anyway...)
and i have already checked the error log which gives no other error, and tried a number of things for a few hours...
can you provide an update version of the hplip package ? including the missing ppd file
i am confused about why the cooking package contains the ppd file while the stable one does not...
I checked the (hplip compile) log hoping to find some obvious difference explaining why one would have the ppd file included and the other one would not
I had not expected such huge logs (159 pages)
If this can help i made a comparison with word
which shows exactly the differences (highlighted) between both logs.
I can send you the file
The ppd part is limiter to the very end
It puzzles me that the ppd file is not included in the stable version since this is very old code (that printer has been around since 10+more years).... (nor like this is last month printer and driver)
There "must" be something with the cooking compilation procedure....
let me know
In the meantime i will try cooking....
I guess that by "cooking" you mean the rolling release available here
http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/rolling/
It hangs on my system searching for a sound card at about 5%
fwiw i have 2 sounds cards, a 10years old pci one which never had been a problem and the integrated sound of a g530 celeron

That lets me stuck so far, :(
It works.
I was a permission issue on /dev/parport0
caught me unexpectedly since I was running the whole thing as root to hope to avoid this kind of isses...
Anyway...
Thanks Mojo, for your help on this !
This was one of 2 things that keep me away from slitaz...
