Thank you developers for making this distribution with its incredibly small footprint.
I had to rescue data from an old PC with 48MB RAM, an IDE Disk which mysteriously would only work in the PC and no USB, a read only CD drive and of course a floppy disk.
Win95 installed but networking didn't want to work and finding support for this old OS was difficult.
I tried different approaches. Many failed. Kolibri OS is awesome to,
but it made it to difficult to copy the data. E.g. the ftp server does not support some standard ftp commands and so no client could copy recursivly. So I tried again with Slitaz and finally got it working.
Steps:
- Used the All In One Boot Floppy http://schierlm.users.sourceforge.net/bootdisk/
to start from CD - Used Slitaz 4 LowRAM CD http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/4.0/flavors/slitaz-4.0-loram-cdrom.iso
- used boot parameters "slitaz screen=text kmap=de-latin1 lang=us"
- logged in as root with std password "root"
- installed openssh-server and rsync with tazpkg
- ran ssh-keygen -A to allow ssh to work properly
- mounted drives identified by the command blkid
- Connected from another PC with "rsync -aP root@PCip:/path /pathToBackupFolder" and saved the data, yay!
