I'm running Slitaz Rolling on an old PIII-1000 with an Asus CUSI-M microATX motherboard with some old integrated SiS video chipset (unfortunately it's in a narrow mini-desktop type case with no space for a discrete video adapter - not that I'd have one to give it anyway, as it only has PCI slots).
When I installed Slitaz it wouldn't go higher than 1280x1024, but then I ran tazx, did install xorg -> auto, it installed the xf86 sis drivers and at the next reboot it automatically selected 1920x1080 (which looks unexpectedly crisp over VGA - I guess I lucked out on the cable).
Problem is, a lot of things that scroll are really slow, especially if in fullscreen. Midori, especially, is really slow even when loading text pages - we're talking two frames per second, if that. Now, I'm not expecting that disgusting old video chipset to be fast (I seem to remember SiS video efforts being slow even in their time), and it was probably never designed to push two million pixels down the VGA link, but it feels even slower than I'd expect. I suspect the system might have switched resolution, but be using generic MESA drivers still.
I had a look through the Xorg log and it mentions SiS video drivers several times, but I can't figure out if it's succeeded loading them - it also mentions failures and fallbacks. Could you help me figure out if I'm running the SiS video drivers or not?
The Xorg log is here.
