Hi
As the last new version of SliTaz rolling is now easy to install on the PC, that I did buy now because the last one did burn out (it is the same but the next model in age, a DELL Optiplex SX280 instead of DELL Optiplex SX270. The changes are minimal, but I can not check any more what did now become better: the PC or the new ISO) I am now again active.
Until yet, I was it rarely with SliTaz 4.0 because it was not possible to start Xwindows in more than 640 x 480 and, terrible thing, because the SliTaz Gods implement setting up value making SliTaz absolutely not able to be used in modus 640 x 480 because you can read nothing, instead to select fonts and fonts size tested in that poor modus!
I find it's a fierce ruthlessness :-( !
But it is not my question today:
My question is that SliTaz will n't work at all very well in some other modus!
The installation is very easy:
Burn ISO on CD (or pre install frugal as I do do avoid to use some CD, a terrible way! Burn a CD for 40 MB, the worst possible solution for the environment!!!) and restart with CD.
Slitaz starts live! Enter as "tux" needing no password...
Shrink your NTFS partition with Gparted (pre installed in SliTaz).
Install 3 new partitions (an extended one as I have 0.5 Terra byte to use, a new primary partition for maintenance, a new swap partition) on the new free place.
(As I did not know if SliTaz would work in my "new" used PC, I did it with Puppy Gparted. And SliTaz's Gparted claims now each start "Libparted Bug Found: Error opening /dev/hda: No medium found". Puppy's Gparted, most actual version from Barry Kauler, never claims. As I am not certain that SliTaz's Gparted can work in safe mode, I am condemned to continue to return to Puppy, if I have to do somewhat needed to work on the partitions table :-( ... who is to blame of both? But, you, you will probably not meet that problem if you only use SliTaz since begin! I hope so...)
After that, it was really easy:
> applications
>> system tools
>>> SliTaz panel
>>>> enter with user name root and password root
>>>>> install
>>>>>> install SliTaz
>>>>>>> continue installation
>>>>>>>> mark some option's fields / enter some values:
web + rolling
to partition sda5 (made with Gparted before, see problem with SliTaz's Gparted)
home on sda8 (made with Gparted before)
hostname slitaz (if good enough for you)
rootpassword somewhat very complex
user tux
tux's password: erase the actual proposed content if you don't need to have to enter some password as simple user, SliTaz gives you traditionally that comfort!
install boot loader: do your best
(I did not try this part as I did do it with Puppy as I never use some CD or USB, I always start ISO as frugal or renounce to use the poor distro being unable to offer a clean way to start directly from CD! It is non sens to install big hard disk and have to use a USB stick or CD because the GNU programmers are not able to take care on that...)
>>>>>>>>> proceed to SliTaz installation
after a very short time I follow the invite "restart and start your fresh new installation" as my /boot/grub/menu.lst was already fully prepared for the new slitaz installation ;-) !
all that happens perfectly! very good, really!
