I am new to Slitaz forum. I am an AntiX linux user.
I use AntiX linux for relatively small size and for its usefulness, especially in my older computer systems .
Lately, like many systems, the size is getting bigger and bigger.
I now try Tiny Core and Slitaz to compare .
In this thread I give my initial assessment of Slitaz.
I give my initial impressions as a new user of Slitaz.
I download the slitaz-rolling-core.iso from their website.
It is 32-bit OS. It is 57 Mb size. Dated upload date 17 May, 2026.
I use xfburn to burn to CD .
I boot up and on my old laptop, it boots to desktop. Nice spider background.
I use wifi tool and able to log in to wifi using wlan0.
I open package installer and recharge package. This must be similar to sudo apt update in AntiX .
I install tools that I use.
I install links, a text browser.
I install gnumeric for spreadsheet.
I install abiword for word processing .
I install audacious as extra sound player. Slitaz already has alsaplayer.
I install mplayer as extra video player. Slitaz already has a built in video player.
I make an iso snapshot using command:
sudo tazlito writeiso lzma
It make an iso with size 92 Mb.
I burn this iso to another CD and now test.
See screen shot.
I try to watch youtube video from youtube.com using built in Midori and Tazweb browser.
Youtube.com site say browser too old, please update browser.
So I search for video using invidious site.
It works. I watch live news channel on Al Jazeera News.
It works on both Midori and Tazweb browsers .
I use links browser to read news. It works good too. See in screen shot.
I watch saved .mp4 video using built in video player. Works .
I watch saved .mpg video using mplayer. Works .
I use gnumeric and abiword . Works good.
I try listening to wisconsin public radio podcast using terminal command:
alsaplayer "http://wpr-ice.streamguys.net/wpr-ideas-mp3-64"
Works good .
I check weather using terminal command:
telnet graph.no 79
then type:
^phoenix
I get weather forcast for phoenix in Fahrenheit .
There is a build in radio , but it is mostly in French .
Desktop looks good and useable.
Not bad for 92 Mb Slitaz iso.
I use this iso on some of my old computers.
Thanks for the Slitaz OS.

Hello! I'm new-ish to SliTaz as well. I'm using it to bring new life to a 2000-era Thinkpad and so far I'm pretty happy with how it's going.

Thanks for your feedback folks. Much appreciated. I'm always amazed when SliTaz can be useful and it give so much value to our work!
Don't hesitate to ask if you want to get involved in the project. We need fresh minds! To propulse SliTaz from 2016, 2026 --> 2046!
