Hi Folks,

till now, I'm not able to run the LibreOffice on this f... old machine. Maybe I'll take the PC to my brother and plug it on the net, to try to fix everything and install all my wishes.

By the way, what's the difference between SliTaz-3.0 and Slitaz-3.0-3in1? Both have exactly the same size. And I couldn't find out the difference.

My next step - 'll have a try to the SliTaz-3.0-loram version. Just to try sth. new.

The Abiword doesn't suite me, because of the esisting documents, wich contain tables and of course pics as well. So Abiword let them look like ... ;-(

Repacking the downloaded LibreOffice not possible. I get a checksum error. I tried several times to tazpkg LibreOffice and repack. No chance. But I still not give up ;-(

Does it make sense to test the loram version? Do I get any effect by using/installing the loram.iso instead of the orig.?

As far as I understand it: no, in case you do a harddrive install.

The benefit of a loram version used as a Live-CD is that the big directory /usr is used from the CD, not charging your RAM, so you can use it even on an old machine with limited RAM. With a real harddrive installation it most likely has no benefit.

@aniguenni, the repack usually fails with a checksum error if something changed after LibreOffice install. See my original post at the beginning of this thread. For repack to work, I had to do it immediately after installing LO. If I install LO, then install something else, or remove something else, then repack fails.

I'm still working to get LibreOffice running on my old PC. But no chance at all. I took the machine to my brother and plugged in on the net and donwloaded LibreOffice. After the download automatically the download of Java started. Everything went fine but at the end I got this message...

... and there is no access to Libre Office in any way. ;-(

Hi,

I told you before, maybe in another thread: if you have only 258 MB RAM it will be damned hard to run OpenOffice/LibreOffice, if not impossible. For such machine you have to ge back to the 1.*-releases of OpenOffice - and then take the headache to convert some including => all the necessary dependancies to tazpkg. Keep us informed, please, as other readers might be interested in something like this as well.

thank's a lot guys for your assistance. now i marked the topic as resolved. i quit to try to setup libreoffice/openoffice on this dammned old machine.

i installed abiword and gnumeric and look for a solution to get presentations running. i'm impressed in gnumeric. to work with abiword, i have to convert nearly all my existing docs. ;-( maybe when i create a swap partition i could get libreoffice running?

anyway - this takes too much time. so i don't need furhter assistance for this. thank you all and keep up the good work.
