@ Mojo: If there's still time for this, I think it would be a good move make PCManFM-Mod the default FM in Slitaz 4.0. It's more or less the same as the original but more mature, with many bugfixes and a handful of useful new features. Other distros already use it as their default FM. SpaceFM looks very promising but is in my opinion not quite there, yet. Why not keep and maintain it in the repository for the adventurous to try out but clearly mark it as experimental and independent from the upcoming release of Slitaz 4.0?

i prefer the logout menu of 3.0 rather than 4.0 which has an extra (unecessary) pulldown menu !

Not to forget the unsolved issues concerning the Xorg-driver. I tried many more machines (older ones, unfortunately all with some nvidia cards) - but with RC2 I could never get a working Xscreen.
I start to feel like a stupid child: what the hell is different with => this Xorg-server?

@ mojo : I can't reproduce this bug on my install (F4 does give me a term) but yes, a far too young soft for 4 (and with far too much and complex features for my use of a fm...

@ Moulefrite: yeah, me too. I mentioned it in my post further up in the thread. Although it isn't a big deal to manually change the logout dialogue in LXpanel and in Openbox, I think "desktopbox logout" should be the default configuration in both. The same applies to the panel configuration and how the panel deals with maximized and moving windows. Although easily changeable by the user, these settings should be made default in all flavors. It's little things like these that leave a lasting impression on people who try out Slitaz for the 1st time.

The next problem:
a USB-WLAN-stick that works flawlessly in 3.0 stable does not work with RC2. The module is loaded but no device wlan0 is shown.
The package usb-utils is installed.

@ Michaelbischof: to me you appear to be anything but a stupid child. It's from one of your earlier posts that I learned how to set up my Nvida card for X, using the proprietary driver. I'm sorry you're having such trouble with RC2. What has changed since RC1? Did you see my earlier post with the installation/configuration procedure?

@ arsaber: I'll try out SpaceFM in a minute. I've just downloaded and burned
slitaz-core-4in1.iso (2012-Mar-14 11:03:54). Internally the last few rolling
releases have already been labelled "RC3" ... things it gets really exciting
now. Although I wish there was still a week or two before the final release.
How about April fools day? :-)

The most serious problem with Spacefm is there doesn't appear to be any udev integration.Flash drives don't appear as icon's when plugged in. DVD/CD drives don't appear. There are no mount/umount options in the rt/click context menu's.

Spacefm should stay in the repo as an install option for more testing. Possibly a candidate for new cooking. Making it the default filemanager on the Slitaz 4.0 release iso is not a good idea.I would be interested to know what bugs you encounter in pcmanfm-legacy.

Spacefm File/Terminal F4 works if bash is installed.

Yes, I saw your scheme but here it did not work. The only ,,new" flavours that I could bring up with an Xsreen are the devel-iso that I recommended to totoetsasoeur as well and the one from gibor (with only xorg-server-light and xorg-xf86-video-vesa). The rest failed on different machines.
Annoying, but does not hurt deep. But for a new release such a thing is criticial as I guess. I really do not know the reason.

... and ever since I've been using it that way I have encountered very irritating but so far harmless bugs. E.g. when I extract an archive from the terminal and have PCManFM open at the same time, I can see the new files and folders appearing in the right pane but the tree view in the left pane is not updated ... the right pane shows folders that don't exist in in the left. The only way to sort this mess out is to close down and restart PCManFM. Another, even more annoying "feature" is, that the tree view in the left pane partially vanishes from the display when copying, deleting or moving files and folders around with cut/copy/paste. If this happens one has to manually collapses the folders in the tree view up to a certain level for PCManFM to recover. In the beginning this behavior always gave me a little heart attack. But as I have never lost any data, I got used to this ... well, sort of.

Progress:
the WLAN-issue in RC2 is solved. The module was shown but apparently the firmware was not loaded properly. Now it runs smooth. No issue then.

... were you referring to SpaceFM or to PCManFM-Mod?
I forgot to mention that a short while ago I tried out PCManFM-Mod in Austrumi 2.4.8 and I didn't encounter any of these problems with it. But there are other problems with Austrumi, which is horribly slow. One thing I did like very much was the look of PCManFM-Mod with detailed list view. When Austrumi is setup to use the Windows Theme desktop and the GTK Theme is "Human 2" PCManFM-Mod looks fantastic (in my eyes, it's of course a matter of taste). I tried to recreate this beauty of a file manager in my Slitaz 3.0 setup, stole the "Human 2" skin from Austrumi but, alas, it didn't work.

... I've just managed to take this one screenshot. There's something seriously wrong in Austrumi because it is excruciatingly slow. I had to give scrot 20 seconds delay so there was time enough to remove the terminal from the display. But this has nothing to do with PCManFM-Mod. Actually, the (in my eyes) good looks have nothing to do with PCManFM-Mod either. It's the "Human 2" GTK skin that does it. The file list in Gslapt has the same sort of looks. What I like about it is the thin line separator and the fact that the sorted column doesn't have a different background color, as it usually has in GTK based file managers (Nautilus, Thunar, PCManFM etc.). I always found the list view in these file managers look busy and irritating. But again ... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I guess, most people don't care much for list views anyway and prefer clicking on icons or thumbnails ...

@ arsaber: I had a look at SpaceFM and liked it a lot although it has features that I won't use. One outstanding and very useful feature of SpaceFM is for me, that it displays a file count over the entire underlying tree in the folder properties. This is very helpful when comparing the contents of directory trees that reside on different file systems, e.g. ext3 and ntfs, where a comparison of the summed-up file sizes is meaningless. None of the other file managers we've been discussing here can do that.
I also saw that PCManFM2 is in the Slitaz 4.0 repository. In my opinion, both SpaceFM and PCManFM2 are still very much a work in progress. PCManFM2 doesn't even have a permissions column, it has no folder properties dialogue and no convenient button to toggle the side pane view between Places and Directory Tree. One has to go into the menu to do that. No wonder many (probably most) people still prefer the original PCManFM 0.5.2. I do hope, though, that its improved and less buggy cousin, PCManFM-Mod, will make it into Slitaz 4.0, maybe even as its default FM ...

I am going to persist with 'feedback' on my 'wifi' problems previously advised......updated earlier today and found a spider on the grub desktop.....and also that the wifi, occasionaly, will load at boot up. This does not happen on every session but is intermittent and inconsistant.

Hi Guys,
after booting SliTaz 4.0 RC2 from live-cd, i was happy to have first time screen resolution 1280 x 756, as i always tried with SliTaz 3.0 and it failed.
but i could not work out to get internet access. the hardware detection detects my wifi with ipw2200 like 3.0 does. but i could not run the module?
after a while i tried to connect to ethernet, but also no chance to access.
O.K. I got it - don't know how and why??? but now i got access by wifi - perfect. i love the slitaz os.
till now i prefer the 3.0. but i guess, if i start to work and get use to 4.0-RC2 maybe i'll change my mind. at the moment everything goes fine.
one more question. how safe is midori web browser, or should i use another safer web browser like firefox such as iron?

How do you find a ,,spider" (what is that?) and the wifi should load at boot, as far as I see it. In /etc/network.conf you establish it like that, didn't you?

on my lifebook the battery monitor shows always 100% charged.
one more interesting thing i couldn't find on slitaz - how to setup the energy behaviour for mobile systems like my lifebook?

A spider now shows on the Grub screen; spreadeagled across the 'page'! ......it makes a very sophisticted touch that wasn't there before.
I have not been able to get 'wireless' to activate consistantly at boot-up despite making the wlan0 changes in /etc/network.conf. It will be there if I 'reboot' rather than 'halt'. It has also appeared, activated at bootup, on some occasions but not regularly.
All of the manual specs are saved, including the essid and WEP key, but it doesn't actvate until I go into the 'connection properties' dropdown menu, enter password 'root' and manually do a 'wireless start-up.
I think the intention is that it should start routinely and I am reporting it in this feedback fthread so the devs can consider it prior to the final release.

Wlan here is not consistent yet. I have one cooking installation on a laptop where it appears automagic after each boot and one 3.0-installation where I have to start it manually by typing ,,udhcpc" into a root konsole. Whatever, as long as it runs...
