Hi Aleksej,

Found bugs in TazPanel 498.

1. Trying to install from rc3 LiveISO (or a fresh full install):

TazPanel, logged as root > Install > Install SliTaz > Continue installation, see install_rc3.png

To have a correct display:

- TazPanel, logged as root > Install > Install > Install SliTaz > Continue installation, or

- Applications > System Tools > SliTaz Installer

and then it'll be always OK (till you reboot if you use a Live)

2. When you are logged as user nobody, TazPanel > Panel > Summary doesn't show hard disks that are mounted with PCManFM.

OK for HD mounted from the command line or from /etc/init.d/local.sh

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Hi Ceel,

Found bugs in TazPanel 498.

1. Trying to install from rc3 LiveISO (or a fresh full install):

TazPanel, logged as root > Install > Install SliTaz > Continue installation, see install_rc3.png

To have a correct display:

- TazPanel, logged as root > Install > Install > Install SliTaz > Continue installation, or

- Applications > System Tools > SliTaz Installer

and then it'll be always OK (till you reboot if you use a Live)

So, where is a bug? Please explain it more.

Anyway, I'm not a developer nor maintainer nor user of the SliTaz Installer, and I have no desire to touch it. I like to make improvements and fix bugs in the TazPanel (without "addons" like "installer.cgi", "live.cgi", "ppp.cgi") and TazPkg. Maybe SliTaz Installer developers will read this post and make fixes in the Installer.

2. When you are logged as user nobody, TazPanel > Panel > Summary doesn't show hard disks that are mounted with PCManFM.

OK for HD mounted from the command line or from /etc/init.d/local.sh

Installer again, sorry. Off-topic. And I want to say that I don't like that "nobody" user, and I will remove it from TazPanel. I think user that logged into the System should open TazPanel as user, but not as nobody. Not to force user to log in twice: into System and into TazPanel.

TazPanel 498 again (may be not a bug but caused by duplicates (tazpanel-498 and tazpanel-499) on the mirror)

Oh, do you know how I hate that duplicates sad

I need more permissions, because at the moment I have no ability to maintain mirror server.

But, you know... I can to add few code to the "cook pkgdb" to eliminate duplicates in the cooker server. Not a bad idea!

I think duplicates are results of some process overlaps in the cooker in the cook server. But I can't realise it. Ok, let I cure not "disease" but "the effects of disease"...

And a last for today:

It takes an eternity at TazPanel 499 to copy 10 lines from Packages > Summary > Latest log entries > Show -> CPU usage = 100% for several minutes.

Please, make an additional experiment for me.

Are you open TazPanel in the TazWeb (browser), right?

Please open any web site in this TazWeb and try to

to copy 10 lines from

Is it the same eternity? Is the problem in the TazWeb or in the TazPanel?

I found when I boot SliTaz Live CD then, yes, selecting the text in the Web Browser is a very bad idea.

But when I "settle in" this Live CD (install packages I need, change few settings, reboot few times, change GTK Theme and Engine) — text selects fast. And I don't know the reason of this "selectable" problem.

PS. Just open that TazPkg log in the TazWeb (slow, because I have long list, but not a deadly) and in the QupZilla (extremely fast text selection). For your information, TazWeb uses Webkit-gtk Engine, while QupZilla (as a Qt application) uses QtWebkit. And while Webkit-gtk we use is outdated-deprecated version 1.8.3, QtWebkit is old too but slightly newer, and is more debugged.

PPS. Tried a really long web page (plain html): https://www.gnu.org/software/gawk/manual/gawk.html

Text selecting is fast in the TazWeb. So, seems problem is both in the TazPanel and in the TazWeb...

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Well, I haven't been really clear for problem 1.

Step 1

If you

- boot from a Live;

- open TazPanel and log as root;

- click on Install > Install SliTaz > Continue intallation

you'll obtain a display similar to install_rc3.png (my post above) where you can only select the source media, the destination, but you cannot format it, no option, just install or go back to the installer start page.

Step 2

Don't reboot but click on Install > Install > Install SliTaz > Continue intallation and see the difference (correct_display.png)

You alway can select the source media and the destination of course but you can now

- format the destination

- select a separate home partition and format it

- set a hostname

- set a root password

- set a user login and a user password

- install a bootloader

- and enabled the dual boot

Step 3

Now, repeat step 1 from

- click on Install > Install SliTaz > Continue intallation

the problem has disappeared; it'll reappear at next boot.

This is true on full installation too the first time you try to launch an install if you use the way describe at step 1. If you use an other way, you'll never see the problem.

That's why I thought it was a bug in TazPanel; so it would be rather in tazinst-gui?

Are you open TazPanel in the TazWeb (browser), right?

Right.

I followed your instructions. I've open the forum and copy your post; the selection is almost intantaneous. I didn't meet this problem with TazPanel 498 but you're right, selecting text in the windows of TazPanel is often really slow.

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Thank you, Ceel, I'll see what can I fix in the SliTaz Installer behavior (that seems not too hard).

Right now I've take a little but very unexpected and speaking experiment!

Maybe CSS styles and / or JavaScript scripts prevents to select text smoothly???

OK, I removed (temporarily):

all *.css files from /var/www/tazpanel/styles/default

all *.js files from /var/www/tazpanel/lib

Then open TazPkg log (it's tricky to press "Show more" button, but we can cycle inputs using Tab or Shift+Tab, and press using Space keyboard button).

OK, I see log. Let's try to select text... And... OH... MY... GOD!!!111

It takes 50 seconds with 50% CPU to select few lines of text. It is much faster when with CSS and JS. Why? Anyway, now I completely free and want to strip few CSS styles and JS scripts down.

PS. Oh, I said "much faster"?

No. Now it is slow too. But why? It was not too slow just a hour ago.

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Hi Ceel,

I saved the page with my own TazPkg log. Then I opened it in the text editor and stripped down all the page's content (menus, tags, css style references, js scripts references, other tags...) leaving just very simple structure — only one ‹pre› tag with log on the page. I upload it, please open it in the TazWeb browser and select few lines: http://people.slitaz.org/~lexeii/forum/source_code.html Too slow. Now, right click page and select Source code view — TazWeb will show page sources. Select few lines now. Not too slow. Strange, right?

Also I open this in the Midori — slow too.

Open in the Xombrero — slow too.

Open in the Opera (12.15) — fast.

Open in the QupZilla — fast.

Seems it is Web Engine related “feature”. And what to do? Don't use ‹pre› to show pre-formatted content??? To break long lists; how? I'm at a loss.

PS added after one hour.

See that: http://people.slitaz.org/~lexeii/forum/source_code_mod.html

It looks the same, but text selection is fast. I'll think how to implement it in the actual TazPanel.

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Seems there is a bug in tazpkg 806.

I installed netsurf for tests and when I removed it, tazpkg warned me that slitaz-configs-base had been modify by netsurf:

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Tazpkg cannot display descriptions of non installed packages:

[c]# tazpkg desc xorg-libXss

Package "xorg-libXss" is not installed.

root@slitaz:/var/log/slitaz#[/c]

This could seem logical but:

- TazPanel does (and can display depends of non installed packages too),

- packages.desc contain descriptions of all packages,

- TazPkg is able to display the installed files of non installed packages:

[c]# tazpkg -lf xorg-libXss

Installed files by "xorg-libXss"

================================================================================

/usr/lib/libXss.so

/usr/lib/libXss.so.1

/usr/lib/libXss.so.1.0.0

================================================================================

3 files

root@slitaz:/var/log/slitaz#[/c]

Not a bug but would be cool if it was possible to display descriptions of non installed packages with TazPkg (and depends too but may be I am a bit greedy? ;-)

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

TazPanel 499

When selecting the extra category, TazPanel doesn't display the [Install] button.

EDIT: I thought you had suppressed the 2 arrows that turn during operations. I'm just going to see them on my Fujitsu (1600x900) in the lower right corner of the window. I'm pretty sure they don't appear on my old acer (1024x768); I'll check tommorrow.

[attachment=38601,1941]

EDIT 2: the search function in TazPanel doesn't find packages in the extra category;

ie: search for "pale" -> find get-palemoon

OK with TazPkg:[c]

# tazpkg search palemoon

Search result for "palemoon"

================================================================================

Installed packages

================================================================================

================================================================================

0 installed packages found for "palemoon"

Available packages

palemoon|Browser based on Firefox that's optimised for performance.|http://www.palemoon.org/|network||MPL2

================================================================================

2 available packages found for "palemoon"

[/c]

but may be a problem inthe displayed result

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Hi guys!

Sorry for the late answer.

Lego, seems like I fixed the bug getting/installing packages using folder with spaces in the path. Please update to the latest packages affected to the bugfix: http://hg.slitaz.org/wok/rev/2cedb70f8399

Now spaces allowed in the path, even in the .tazpkg filename! smile

How I tested. Create folder "/tmp/with some  spaces/" (where first space is single, while second space is doubled). Opened terminal here. Get "nano" package (tazpkg -g nano). Renamed file inserting space between "na" and "no". When all the fixing is done, I have ability to install this package double-clicking on it.

Ceel, sorry for slow bug fixing. I'll return to your reports a little later.

PS.

... and update TazPkg one more time — to the 813 revision. Installing local package (with spaces) worked only using tazpkg-box GUI, but failed using terminal, now fixed.

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Hi Aleksej,

no problem for slow bug fixing, I lead myself all my activities in slow motion these last days :-(

Something I don't understand with packages update:

I've installed slitaz-rolling of april 2015, 9th, on 2 partitions of my HD: sda3 and sda5. I update them regularly, often the same day.

As you can see in the attached tazpkg.log files, on 2015/05/27, both were at the same state (I suppose I didn't update sda5 on 2015/05/26)

On 2015/06/05, I first recharge the packages list on sda3 and updated the installation (10 new versions/build); then I did the same on sda5 and TazPanel answered that the list was already up to date: no new versions/build! But the package list on sda5 is dated 2015/05/31.

How is it possible? That's not the first time it happens (this was before tazpkg-813). I didn't recharge list and do any update since, neither sda3 nor sda5, if you want me I check some files.

EDIT: May be I just get it; sda5 didn't connect to the same mirror than sda3, did it?

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Hi Ceel,

Sorry, I even don't know what to advise. Maybe, let we see some of your TazPkg DB files on the both installations.

Go to TazPkg DB directory: [c]cd /var/lib/tazpkg[/c]

Determine mirror used: [c]cat mirror[/c]

Get the latest DB index from that mirror: [c]wget -O - $(cat mirror)/IDs 2>/dev/null[/c]

Show current DB index: [c]cat IDs[/c]

Additional check for correct packages.md5: [c]md5sum packages.md5[/c]

Here is my output:

[c]tux@slitaz:/var/lib/tazpkg$ cat mirror
http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/
tux@slitaz:/var/lib/tazpkg$ wget -O - $(cat mirror)/IDs 2>/dev/null
49649c6791c9f024974a95db663f03c5 1433462496
tux@slitaz:/var/lib/tazpkg$ cat IDs
49649c6791c9f024974a95db663f03c5 1433462496
tux@slitaz:/var/lib/tazpkg$ md5sum packages.md5
49649c6791c9f024974a95db663f03c5  packages.md5[/c]
Mirror... it can be a problem when you require fast changes. The time when new packages are distributed to your mirror can be about a day or two.

And, when you need to force DB recharging, you can just remove file [c]/var/lib/tazpkg/IDs[/c] and run [c]tazpkg recharge[/c] again.

[/c]

and for sda7 (sorry, I don't know why I've written sda5 all along my previous post)

[c]

sda7@slitaz:/var/lib/tazpkg$ cat mirror

http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/

sda7@slitaz:/var/lib/tazpkg$ wget -O - $(cat mirror)/IDs 2>/dev/null

7a4fc551c90f12b7258cfce4972e588a  packages.md5

[/c]

This confirm that sda7 hasn't been updated and yet I'm quite sure I asked for after sda3.

I'm going to update sda7 and I'll now update the 2 installations with TazPkg; maybe I can see something in messages.

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Hi Aleksej,

I continue to follow updates of my 2 installations (from rolling ISO 20150409) to see if there still are differences (see http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/new-version-of-packages-manager-tazpkg-testing-needed/page/7#post-38612)

No problem since I update them from tazpkg in a terminal

Today I updated them again (mirror is http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/ for both). In sda7.txt you can see

- what were ID and IDs before update

- the output of [c]tazpkg recharge[/c]

- and the output of [c]tazpkg up[/c]

everything went exactly the same on the 2 installations

Then I updated the installation I've made from RC3 (mirror: http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/5.0/) with TazPanel. In sda6.txt you can see

- ID and IDs were identical that for the 2 other installations

- database timestamp is the same for the 2 mirrors

but

- mirrored packages diff are different (more packages)

- available packages to upgrade are more numerous and different

And yet the 3 installations were at the same state (last update 20/06 for all of them, same ID)

A few minutes later after the upgrade, I asked for recharge list, always with TazPanel; a "new" list have been recharge that was one day older...

And when I look at the files properties

- ID on the 3 installations are the same

- and strangely on the RC3 installation, last modification for packages.list is 06/22/15 02:00 and last modification for ID and IDs are 06/23/15 12:29

Am I going crazy?

I know this is not important because finally packages that are not updated today will be tomorrow but what's the thing I don't understand? where is my mistake?

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

OK, take a break and go back to more concrete issues.

TazPanel-501 - Trying to do a loram ISO

In the box Convert ISO to loram, the default values for

- ISO to convert is /root/

- ISO to create is /root/loram.iso

I downloaded the slitaz-rolling-core.iso in /home/sda7/downloads/.

I changed

- ISO to convert to /home/sda7/downloads/slitaz-rolling-core.iso

- ISO to create to /home/sda7/slitaz-rolling-core-loram.iso

When I click on [Convert ISO to loram] nothing happens; ISO to convert and ISO to create come back immediately to their default value (whatever the choice The filesystem is always in RAM /  The filesystem may be on a small CDROM /  The filesystem may be on a large CDROM)

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

TazPanel-501 - Private repositories (full install - rolling freshly udpated)

As I can find some non free packages on http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/extra/, I thought I could download them creating a private repository in TazPanel. But as soon as I clicked on [+Add mirror] the list of current repositories disappeared and has been replaced by my private repository... (see private-repository.png)

/var/lib/tazpkg/mirrors has disappeared.

And /var/lib/tazpkg/mirrors of the other installations (sda6 and sda3) are missing too, what a bad joke! Is it due to the updates I've done this afternoon?

I copied mirrors from my SliTaz 4.0 and found back the Current mirror list.

By the way, there are no .bak files anymore in /var/lib/tazpkg/ excepted mirror.bak now?

When I select my private repository, /var/lib/tazpkg/mirror, that was http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/, becomes http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/extra/packages/5.0/

- packages/cooking/ became packages/5.0, so now when I select my usual current mirror http://mirror.slitaz.org/, tazpkg connects to http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/5.0/ and not to http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/ anymore

- why TazPanel adds packages/5.0 to the url of private repositories?

I'd like to create a private repository, /home/sda7/packages/ on my hard disk. Is it possible to do it?

Re: New version of packages manager (tazpkg) testing needed

Hi Ceel,

Let me answer in the different order.

Let's begin with the Private repositories.

/var/lib/tazpkg/mirrors has disappeared

Confirmed. Sad. Also "extra.list" is missing too sad

The story. Recharging was reworked. Not long time  ago TazPkg loaded a number of files when recharging.

Now first it checks "IDs" file (44 bytes of download traffic). If "IDs" not changed then you already have the latest packages database. If "IDs" is the different then go ahead. It is faster to download one archive file and then extract it than download a bunch of files. So, archive called "bundle.tar.lzma" is prepared in the server every night, this process called "pkgdb" (you can see it in the http://cook.slitaz.org/ log). Archive "bundle.tar.lzma" designed to contain next files:

[*]mirrors

[*]extra.list

[*]files-list.md5

[*]packages.info

[*]descriptions.txt

[*]packages.desc

[*]packages.md5

[*]packages.txt

[*]packages.list

[*]packages.equiv

Existing files in the packages database folder (/var/lib/tazpkg/) are backed-up and archive extracted.

Next, we have large file "files.list.lzma" (about 2.5 MiB). We have its checksum, and also we have checksum of this file located in the server. If checksums are different then we download this large file.

Let's step back. I downloaded bundle.tar.lzma manually:

[c]wget http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/bundle.tar.lzma[/c]

Missing files here:

[*]mirrors

[*]extra.list

Let's read sources: http://hg.slitaz.org/cookutils/file/85f682116a0c/cook#l1597

[c]wget -q http://mirror1.slitaz.org/mirrors
wget -q -O extra.list http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/get.list[/c]
These files are downloads before packing to the archive. I tried to download them and all seems good. But what it was? Why files are missed? I don't know, maybe some network errors. Very soon I'll add the infinite loop to download these files to be sure files are in the archive.

As a temporary workaround (to get files back):

[c]su
cd /var/lib/tazpkg
wget http://mirror1.slitaz.org/mirrors
wget -O extra.list http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/get.list[/c]
_____

Next question.

http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/cooking/ vs http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/5.0/

These URLs are the same now.

It was long time ago smile In the time when story called "Opération Libre à Gérardmer" ( http://scn.slitaz.org/ ) writes (august or september of 2014 year). Pankso was in journey in the interesting Linux exhibition. Pankso and Pascal sold few USB Flashes with SliTaz installed. It was the time when we all waited for upcoming 5.0 in a very near future. So, new repository "5.0" was created and file "/etc/slitaz-release" filled with "5.0". But we have no different "5.0" repository: no then, nor now. "5.0" is just a link to "cooking".

I not tested RC3, but seems you use it, and content of "/etc/slitaz-release" there is "5.0".

_____

How to use your own Private Repositories?

In short — local or remote folder should contain *.tazpkg packages and database files.

What are the database files today?

[*]packages.desc

[*]packages.md5

[*]packages.txt

[*]packages.list

[*]packages.equiv

And my database file also:

[*]packages.info

I re-write TazPkg to use [c]packages.info[/c] only instead of four first files listed above. Work is in progress, and I not sure when I finish. Also, please note, you need "bundle.tar.lzma" to "connect" to remote repository. So, OMG, you can't use Private Repositories in any way. Sorry.

Yesterday I wrote small addition to the TazPkg: "tazpkg mkdb". It makes the database (packages.info) using folder that contains *.tazpkg packages. But you still impossible to recharge that Private Repository using current TazPkg...
