I'm restarting to fiddle with my pc(and then with Slitaz) and i've installed slitaz rolling.
I can see that Gparted refuses to start if HAL is installed and not started, which seems to be what happens in the rolling live cd. Gparted seems to look for hal-lock, deleting /usr/bin/hal-lock let Gparted get started, as well as starting hal.
I think that hal is not started because it's deprecated and will be removed: http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:hal-removal
What is better to do right now, start hal o remove it?

gparted and /usr/bin/hal-lock

Hi Ernia
I removed it and also removed pcmanfm - replacement is spacefm and udevil - I also removed gparted and use cfdisk instead (not really replacement, but I can live with it) - if you want to know, how things should work, take a look in Antix
its useable - most anoing thing for me is, that tazlito and tazusb are not working

pcmanfm-legacy works well with hal, and gparted works well with and without hal.
cfdisk does not resize partition, which would be desiderable from the live cd if you want to install freeing some space on the hard disk. just wondering the reason why to have hal installed but not started in the live cd.
meanwhile i'm trying to understand pcmanfm 1.10, gvfs and polkit.
if i need a linux distro working out of the box i use linuxmint, but to get dirty hands i cannot betray Slitaz :-)Posted 12 years ago # -
Yeah, just touched Rolling myself. And I hate it. All that bloat and a 10Mb iso gain for something that doesn't work right? Begone pcmanfm and take gvfs with you! Begone stupid language selection from the boot menu (it was a bad idea from the start)! How did we let quality slip to this degree? We need to get the gang together and plan how we're going to fix it RIGHT NOW.

Right now, some people here in Europe has winter vacations with quite family holidays and can't pay their attention to SliTaz. Maybe, someone else like me, has a lot of work at the year's edge, and can't pay more to SliTaz than it is.
I have only ideas. Not how to fix broken system, no. Only how to grow usability. But I can't start to write code. I have power only to write these silly posts :/
