I simply installed a downloaded slitaz from a Live CD cooking. Now, i realize there is the possibility to have a 64-bit slitaz. Therefore my questions:
How can i find out, which kind of slitaz i installed? And is there, just in case, the possibility to change from 32-bit to 64 bit without a complete new installation? (Configuration was not so easy and so i wouldn't like to have to do it another time ;) ).
Thanks a lot in advance for any hint!

type: uname -a
in 32bit slitaz you will see something with: "i686"
in 64bit: "x86_64"

There is no slitaz software repository with 64-bit compiled software.
Only the slitaz kernel and it's module packages are available as 64-bit.
The rootfs(software)on slitaz64 and regular slitaz(32bit)livecd use the same 32-bit tazpkgs.

Ok. Just a question, or better 2 (daisychained ;) ):
a) is it possible to change from the 32-bit kernel to the 64 bit kernel (on the fly)?
b) does the use of the 64-bit kernel bring any advantage (and would it be therefore reasonable to change)?
PS. I've here an old HP Pavilion with AMD Turion (and a pretty nice new pata ssd - kind of a white elephant, nowadays). It's still a pretty useful machine, where previously i had a nice (fluxbox converted) crunchbang setup on which went to hell with the stopping of crunchbang and - my - failing attempt to convert it to siduction. So, i thought, i could avoid the systemd thing (which for me created a lot of trouble doing the setup - and moreover i didn't want to move to far from slackware, whcih is my "home" in some way :) ) and i tried slitaz, which looks fine so far.

I tried to install 64-bit kernel+modules and 32-bit kernel+modules and pick kernel with grub menu. The kernel modules wouldn't load for either. It may be possible with a hack but it's not worth my effort.I see no advantage to 64bit kernel so I don't run it on my slitaz installs.I multiboot slitaz 4 and 5 32bit, arch linux 64bit, void linux 64bit, funtoo current 64bit,funtoo stable 32bit,gentoo stable 64bit with systemd. My next install is crux linux 64bit. I prefer to boot into a distro that does what I need it to do rather that try to force a distro to do something it's not capable of.There is no perfect distro,they all have limitations.

64-bit kernels do have advantages, or they wouldn't exist.
Now, does a 64-bit kernel bring any advantage _to you_ is another question :)
In short, a 64-bit kernel is useful if you do intensive computing (research-level computing, say), or use memory-intensive software (using several GB of RAM per process).
So on an old machine the answer is probably "no"!

Ok. Two neat answers. I think, i'll stick with what i have.
@mojo It's off topic here but anyway: What do you think about void? Background: I trust in slackware but if there is no further development let's say in the next 8 month or so, may be it's time to look for an alternative ...
