I downloaded asciiportal and Deadbeef binaries from the official websites, and they run excellently and all, but I wish to run them from the taskbar/menu instead of going to their respective folders. How do I go about doing this?

Adding applications to menu.

One way is to add the application to the top panel so that application icon can be clicked to start the app. Right click on the top panel -> add/remove panel items.

The other way is to create /usr/share/applications/MyApp.desktop. Check out other .desktop files in this directory and perhaps the best way is to copy an entry in the same category and modify the relevant fields such as the application name, command to execute and the icon you want to use.

For future reference, in the Icon and Exec fields, insert FULL path to desired file/binary.
