   Yes, but what is the source of the avatars automatically assigned to members when they join the forum?

   Register with Gravatar. It works with the e-mail address you use during the registration process. The username @ gravatar doesn't really matter so pick anything you want. Just remember to add and authenticate all e-mail address you use with it. Then if a site supports gravatar, it will automatically set your avatar for you after you register.
