I didn't update Slitaz since a week or two ago but after latest update, icons on browser tabs changed from an x (to close them) to an image with a red cercle (a forbidden sign) on a black terminal-like screen, after rebooting, wallpaper turns black and the same red circle appears as network connection icon in the bottom right, no Internet.
I use Slitaz on my beloved collection of IBM Thinkpads G40 and G41 (P4 or Celerons) I updated two of them one G40 and one G41 and the result was the same, I didn't try it on my Qosmio (i7) ones as I only use W10 in those so not sure if it's some hardware that's not going to be supported by Slitaz anymore, I hope not as I love those old laptops that I use much more than my Qosmios.
I hope anyone can help me to explain the problem better.
Thanks for your time.

I too love Slitaz on my old Panasonic toughbooks. I stopped updating as it tends to break. I know this isn’t wise but too many things aren’t supported with the new updates. Firefox being one I use all the time requires ssl support in the cpu which I don’t have. It is a rolling distro after all.
I wonder if one of your issues is similar to this

Hi terry
In my case, there was no text message, after updating I could still access Internet but in my browser (Palemoon) tab "x" icons were replaced with an image of a terminal-like small black screen with a red circle in the middle (like the one in the Ghostbusters logo) but after rebooting the laptop, screen was almost all black and several icons in the lower bar were replaced with that rare icon, even icons in the slitaz menu dissapeared (only text was displayed) and Internet connection was unavailable.
I used to update systems almost daily but mojo told me one to better not so then I update evry two weeks or so, the proble came with the last week or two updates.
I was going to try to download this week rolling iso and see if I have the same problem just in case problem came with updating through Tazpkg Internet updates or if it's the same with an already updated weekly iso.
I appreciate your comment.Posted 5 years ago # -
Well... I downloaded the rolling iso dated 2020-03-08 and everything worked fine so whatever broke my Slitaz was not the updated packages but the process of downloading and installing those updates made by tazpkg as I suppose the same updates are included in the current rolling distro 2020-03-08 that I downloaded and installed successfully.
I'll try next week rolling iso just to make sure it works too.Posted 5 years ago # -
For me. During package upgrade. I found some package upgrade failed on post-install.
After I reboot. I have black wallpaper, forbidden icon but (Don't know if) I still have Internet.
And after some digging. I found out force reinstall some packages that failed on post-install during update actually solve this problem after reboot.Force reinstall package with
tazpkg -gi --forced
gdk-pixbuf
,gtk+
andgtk+3
And reboot the system.Hope this helps.

Hi wynn
When I updated, I think there were 30 or more packages to be updated, I didn't read the lines that appear below each update to see if any showed any error (I suppose this is the way you know which package to force reinstall to??), anyway, I don't keep anything in my laptops, just the OS and a couple apps but nothing else so from now on, if an update breaks the system i'll simply download that week iso which has built in the update or updates that broke my system and reinstall it before asking someone to take a look to a problem which was only an update download (I don't think so as I suppose tazpkg compares md5sum of each downloaded update befor trying to install it) or update install error.
Thanks for your help.
