I just installed SliTaz 3.0
I have wireless internet coming into the PC through a usb port, but PC won't recognize it.
I also have Windows XP on the same PC and it recognizes the internet with no trouble.
My wireless router has no password. My PC has no password. But SliTaz keeps asking for
admin password after "user: tux"
I understand that I am user tux (the penguin)
but what is the password?
HELP!

by default, admin should be user:root password:root
tux has no password.
if just hitting return doesn't work try root as a password like with sudo.
or login as root and see if tht works

try plugging the following into a terminal:
ifconfig usb0
dhcp usb0then see if you are connected.
you might have to be root.
Hang on,,,, what do you mean "wireless internet coming in on usb"
Isn't that wired then?

@yidaki
Open terminal
subox netbox
Enter root in password box.
Connections tab
Do you see the wireless interface: wlan0,ra0 or ath0 ?
If not :
tazpkg get-install usbutils
lsusb
Post complete line which describes your usb wireless interface.@baggins
usb network interface on slitaz is wlan*,ra*,ath*,eth*

I did get root to work for password though

Now what?

i have a usb wireless antennae
does that help clarify my setup?Posted 13 years ago # -
To install software, change any files that are not in your home folder you have to become root also known as su.
thebox asks me to be a su
Password: root ,check the Autosave password box so it remembers the password, and click ok button.
Netbox will launch.
Give me the information I asked you for in my previous reply from netbox connections tab.Where do i type tazpkg get?
Open the terminal.
Become root:
su
Enter
Password:
root
Enter
Now your root
tazpkg get-install usbutils
enter
If you don't see the software download/install your not connected to the internet and this will not work.
If it installed type this in terminal:
lsusb
hit enter key
Copy paste into your next reply the line which describes your usb wireless adapter.
Without that specific information I will not be able to help you.The information I need from your wireless adapter will be in this format:
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870/RT3070 Wireless AdapterPosted 13 years ago # -

Bit of advice. Rather try the SliTaz 4 Release Candidates (RC for short). They work better with wireless connections since they come with the most common drivers. SliTaz 3 still expects you to connect to the internet and install many things.
This is the latest development version:

@ mojo many thanks for the info.
@ yadaki. Try the advice further up. I think you could D/l the package to your usb with Windows then open it with SliTaz. Hopefully there are no dependencies and it'll install.
The advice about 4 rc is good though. So far it rocks, and FAST.
Well done to all concerned.
