Is it possible to do a HD install of Windows 7 iso through Slitaz. My school offers a free download of it but I dnt have a CD+RW drive only CD ROM and my computer doesn't support usb boot that I know of so do I have any options? I plan on keeping Slitaz also.
How 2 HD install Windows 7 iso through Slitaz without a disc or usb???

You can but it is not easy and the steps done manually, or redo everything starting with the windows setup, partitioning and re-installing SliTaz.
Seven steps to install from usb:
1) create a bootable USB support with seven http://www.intowindows.com/how-to
2) create a CD with plop boot-boot-manager

3) plug on your pc usb create and plop cd
4) launch plop cd and select usb
5) windows setupin any case SliTaz will be distorted at least some, preferably keep a backup

You have the product key from your purchase, right? (yes/no ONLY, please!only)
What brand/model computer do you have - what specs? It is possible to download a legal Windows 7 install ISO from Digital River; there are many different versions.
Setup will likely be easier if you can find a way to boot (perhaps via CD) from usb flash drive.
Win7 install may need a DVD or pendrive>=4Gb.I believe Microsoft doesn't support "frugal install" like many Linux distros do.

sorry before, but it's not slitaz solution. Maybe you could boot from floopy contain MS-DOS and run setup.exe manually. You need to create a fat32 partition on your hd. 5Gb is enough, then find a pc with dvd and copy the dvd to your hd. But you need to unpack the iso with winrar. Next you need to create a bootable floopy, then put your hd back, boot from floopy, cd to win7 dir, and run setup.exe.
Hope it helps, sorry for not providing slitaz solutionPosted 12 years ago # -
Yes, Win7 installs from a dvd, so a cd drive won't fit.
You could use a cd (even a small "business-card" cd) to start the Plop bootloader, which can load usb drivers; then you could run an ISO from a flash drive. [SARDU?]
Desmo's right - the first part of Windows Setup mostly just copies files - after making sure it likes the partition, or space, to install to. [MyDigitalLife.info?] Then it reboots. At that point, sometimes it gets lost, but it can be done.
Consider this also: If DOS or W'9x or XP is on your hard drive, and you shrink its partition, Win7 could use the rest.
ByTheWay, how well Win7 will run on your computer? There's a program to test that.Posted 12 years ago #
