Why is there a httpd daemon running with default Slitaz install? Does it provide some inherent functionality required for Slitaz? Can it be turned off and/or uninstalled?

httpd, why?

With Cooking: Yes. It's part of Busybox and it's also what makes Tazpanel work. It cannot be uninstalled, but can be disabled (Tazpanel will stop working though).
With SliTaz 3: No. You have to install lighttpd to get one.

I guess taking it out of rcS.conf should be enough to disable it?
Sorry if I'm being persistent about this, but is there any other reason, apart from tazpanel, to keep httpd running? I reviewed it briefly, and didn't see much use for it since most of what it provides can be accomplished using existing command line tools.
Would disabling it affect Busybox's functioning in any way? Thanks.

None I can think of besides Tazpanel. Yes, removing it from rcS.conf should disable it. It shouldn't effect Busybox at all.
