Hi everyone,

First things first. Slitaz Rocks!!!! It is not only snappier than other mini-distros, it´s also very easy on the eye. I love your design (though 3.0 more so than 4.0 ... but one can always easily costumize.) Many THX to you guys!

I have a 3.0 Vesa version together with some files on a miniscule 64 MB(!) usb-stick just to shock people, and have a 4.0 iso on my keychain besides my other favorite (antix).

I am no linux-crack but I know my way around google and have some experience with debian based distros (must love apt-get, synaptic, and the massive repos!).

I took the big step and tried Slitaz as hdd install with dropbox and all the shabang I could get through the package manager ... and was quite happy except for the fact, that I could not find a way to view and input korean language. Big problem for me. I tried some input methods but IBUS seems to be the easiest way to set things up.

So here are my questions:

Is anyone using IBUS out there? I could not find any packages for slitaz.

Alternatively, how could I install the necessary packages (ibus, ibus-hangul) "from source"? Can someone point to a man-page for doing this in slitaz, or even better short instruction? (Never done that. Never had to.)

Any answers or hints are very much appreciated.

Do you really need ibus?
More than three months ago I wrote my mini-HowTo: how to use Japanese keyboard with SCIM (link).
Can you test, maybe you can use this mini-HowTo for Korean too?

It has been a while since I tried to use anything different than ibus. It makes everything so easy.

The external link to Mint does work (interesting, since mint comes with ibus). However, the "internal" links to tazpanel seem to be dead. Do you have alternatives?

I have not tried it yet, but it sounds promising. I will have to install slitaz again, but that´s the easiest thing in the world... I will have to sneak around to do it before weekend though.

update.

since the tazpanel was out, I tried to look up the packages again. SCIM shows ... and even scim-ko for Korean input. So that seems extremely promising.

I will have to figure out how to install korean fonts, but that is a job for google... and a long night.

Time to get friendly with scim it seems.

It somehow didn´t cross my mind to look for alternative IM, since I got used to ibus on other systems and have a vague memory of trying and failing with other IMs years ago.

* For what it´s worth. Could anybody "cook" ibus for the wok? (right terms???)

Bellard ... you are my personal hero! Many thanks.

Slitaz is back on the menu ... I knew the "wok" metapher had something good.

Lunch-break is almost over and I need to get back to work ... but I will most def. come back to report.

fwiw: searching for alternatives on the net and slitaz rep. it seems the old xim nabi is in the rep., whereas scim-hangul is missing.

BUT I won´t need them if I get ibus to work.

I got slitaz up and runnig again.
3.0 because the graphic card on my ancient testbed notebook didn´t like the new version.

Installed ibus, ibus-hangul, libhangul, nabi, korean fonts.

BUT I seem to be too stupid to get things running.

ibus tells me I have dependency issues (pun intended), so I tried first to install the dependencies... but failed on several levels. So I gave up the ibus road.

I got nabi installed with the help of this site http://heisvoid.blogspot.de/2012/07/how-to-install-nabi-on-arch-linux.html

BUT nabi will not work with my locale (which is en_US with the standard UTF8 charmap).

according to http://ptpl.kldp.net/projects/nabi/forum/309644
nabi calls for ko_KR.eucKR, ko_KR.UTF-8, or en_US.UTF-8
I tried to change the locale but couldn´t find out how to change the name. I even tried the Korean locale ... to no prevail. Means no nabi, either.

The only possibility left would be scim ... but if I am too stupid to get ibus running, better not go there at all.

I really love the speed and slick design of slitaz ... but for the moment I will have to stick with antix as my main distro.

Maybe someone out there has more luck.

I finally got Korean input working. Not due to my dilligence, though. Thanks go out to this guy http://www.bodnara.co.kr/bbs/bbs.html?D=8&num=123152, who made a flavor with nabi and flash available.

Some afterthoughts: Somehow I was using the stable versions and was too slow to realize that it should have been cooking in the first place. In the end, I was able to replicate the results from the above mentioned flavor by using cooking and infos from this site. http://blog.jinbo.net/moonuihan/2

Slitaz still rocks. The troubles of getting it to work for my special needs made me realize that I still have a long way to go, when it comes to linux.

My main distros in use are mint-debian (which makes me kinda dummer), antix ... and now again... Slitaz. On mint and antix I usually have ibus running instead of nabi but maybe that will change with my new found slitaz-toy to tinker with.

I have to redact my comment from the last posting.

I was able to install nabi, but not to run it really.

I am having trouble configuring slitaz to load with nabi running and making it the default IM.

... which brings me to the question if anybody had thought about making "im-switch" available for slitaz? I would be useful for all the international users who do not have the luxury of simply switching keyboards and locales (which is another hickup with slitaz, since it does have a rather weird locale policy.)

It seems I forgot to update.

Here is how I got it working finally.

install slitaz - locale has to be set to US

enter a terminal as su

# tazpkg recharge
# tazpkg get-install glibc-locale
# tazpkg get-install libhangul
# tazpkg get-install nabi
# tazpkg get-install droid-font

then comes the part that got me confused before.
You have to append two files.

~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh

# nabi
nabi &
export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
export QT_IM_MODULE=xim

AND

~/.xinitrc

export XMODIFIERS="@im=nabi"

After that everything is peachy. Enjoy.
