in SliTaz it works like adding to the bootline
slitaz home=hda2 or
slitaz home=UUID
but you have to format (ext3 or ext4) the disk and have to create all the files

sorry, i don't really get that what is that link means.
and i didn't that is there any way to load settings and applications from a file?(it's better to be automatically)
sorry for my bad English and being a nobe user.Posted 12 years ago # -
whats the reason, why you will do this?
to boot from CD is very slow and not for daily use - so if you want to use SliTAz permanent, its better to use Slitaz frugal either on the hard disk or on the stick.
http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:frugal
http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:liveusb
in slitaz all changes are done with tazusb or tazlito, which is much quicker than the puppy version...

The reason is my system don't have any hard drive and CD-Rom is much more faster than USB 1.1 i love to use the software in this way.
thank you so much, now i think it's better to install the all system in a USB drive.Posted 12 years ago # -
OK - thats really a reason - its not better, to install all the system in a usb drive
what you know about tazlito?

@madman,
I know what booting from USB 1.1 is. When I started with SliTaz (2.0) on my old PC, I try a day to boot with a LiveUSB. It's taken near 4:30 to uncompress bzImage and rootfs.gz !
With the same PC and Plop Boot Manager launched from grub it takes only 30 seconds to boot SliTaz 4.0 from a Live USB.Can't you manage to install grub, plop boot manager and make a frugal install on a USB stick ?

@kultex
sorry, i don't know what is tazlito and i searched all i found was about how to work with that!@Ceel
plop as i searched is another distro and it have a separate boot manager, i think this thing must be included into the software its not about how the distro booted.
sorry i have tribal English and i am nobe!Posted 12 years ago # -
Ceel do you take over, I am not experienced in this case - and I think we should document this here
http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:uncommoninst
I can do the docu, if you want

ok - I did a bit of research, how this should work:
You download the parted magic iso and burn it to a CD-
http://sourceforge.net/projects/partedmagic/files/latest/download
and you find the PLOP Boot Manager in the Menue - here a screenshot
http://www.gambaru.de/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/20110315_PartedMagic_Boot.jpg
then with Slitaz - you should create with gparted (in the menue ) 2 partitions one with 500 MB for the system - all the rest for your files
and I think, it should be good to have a stick with 2 GB
plug in your usb stick and go to System Tools->Create a LiveUSB.
and put slitaz to the usb stick on the first partition - in your case I think it is sda1
then you start plop boot manager with the CD
plug in the stick after you started plop
and you should be able to boot slitaz
when you managed this, we continue

Madman - please dont download the linked parted magic iso - in this iso, plop is not included!!!
sorry, I took this from a german howto and you should never link something, you did not test before !!!
download and burn the plop LiveCD with 82 MB from here
http://www.plop.at/en/ploplinux/download.html
how it works:
you instert the CD and the Stick with Slitaz , boot the Plop Boot Manager and select the Stick and SliTaz boots nicely - tested now, works perfect
and if you have a floppy, you can boot from, plop is included in the Slitaz floppy image
http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:dvd?s=plop - I cannot test, I have no floppy

@kultex
Ceel do you take over
I'm going to try to do it but as every end of year I'm overbooked in my job and I just find a few minutes sometimes to times to read the forum (as today during my midday pause). I'll be on hollidays from wednesday and I'll try to give more information on thursday or friday. After I'll be out with no internet connection possible until january 5th
I can do the docu, if you want
No problem.
Merry christmas and a happy new year to all !

@kultex
Thank you for researching for me.
as it is look like the cd will boot my memory and in memory is my all system.
i think it's easier to do this with universal USB installer.
the thing that i want is the all system is on the cd not just boot loader and changes are in the memory.
Thank you so much deer kultex.Posted 12 years ago # -
just to clear some things:
changes can not be in the memory
ok let me explain
you boot SliTaz with the CD - then you downlod a pdf or a mp3 from the Internet - this will land in your /home folder and you can open the pdf or listen to the music
But when you turn off the computer, the pdf and the mp3 disappear, because they are only in memory and not on a physical hard disc
so in SliTaz you have the possibilty to specify your /home directory in the boot line
you add to your normal bootline the command
home=sda1 rootdelay=10
this you can add on the bootline from the CD, in syslinux.cfg from your bootable USB-Drive and also in grub. So this home-partition must be an extra partition and it must be formatted with ext2, etx3 or ext4 and on this partition must be also some files, otherwhise the computer will hang on slim
When you say you have only USB 1.0, the problem is, that most computers with USB 1.0 do not boot from usb.
My experience is, that even USB 1.0 is quicker than a CDRom. If your computer does not boot SliTAz from USB, only in this case the PLOP-Live-CD is usefulWhen you decide to boot from USB, then you should have two seperate partitions on the USB, one for the system and one for your home folder
I hope, that explanation helps

Hello,
Sorry to be late. I did'nt find any time before to go in december.
Here is how to boot from a USB1 port at USB2 speed:
1. download Plop Boot Manager here http://www.plop.at/files/bootmngr/plpbt-5.0.14.zip
2. extract plpbt.bin from the zip file
3. copy plpbt.bin in /boot/extlinux (or /boot/syslinux/ when using FAT16 or 32) of your LiveUSB; you must be root.
4. add an entry to start plop at the end of /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf (or /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg):
.../...
LABEL reboot
MENU LABEL Reboot System
COM32 reboot.c32LABEL plop
linux plpbt.bin hiddenusb
.../...Save the file and then boot on your LiveUSB. At orange screen, select plop; plop will search for a USB stick and will boot on your live but with the USB2 speed. The orange screen appears again; select SliTaz live core. That's all... If your stick is formated ext2 or 3, all your documents and config files will be saved in the /home folder of the stick.
An important detail: USB keyboards don't work with plop. If you have one, when the menu will display the second time, you won't be able to select anything, that's why you musn't place the plop option in your menu as the first entry; the LiveUSB will start automatically after the timeout.
This way is simpler that what I proposed in my post above. I don't test it in real conditions because as said Kultex, most of the time computers with USB1 ports don't boot from USB and that's my case. I tested it with plop started from a CDROM (and a floppy too), and it worked.
I hope I've been clear enough in my explanation and it will work for you as well as it works for me.
