Hi all

Open alsamixer,F5:[All],check the mic is not muted (M key)and mic level is above 50%
Some soundcards include mic boost, turn it on with M key.
When talking in the mic it should come out your speakers.
I always setup/test audio recording on mhwaveedit which is included in slitaz core before installing audacity.
@xoanan, interested to hear whether you resolved your problem. I am having the same issue with a Dell Inspiron. If I boot into Ubuntu my mic works OK.
@mojo unmuted everything and set input to 100% - still no luck - speakers work ok. Tried with nhwaveedit as well but zero levels indicated when recording.
dont know on your machine but on mine it took an awfull lot of time to make the audio work as expected.
you also may need to use the M key on the micro boost which adds +20dB and is next to the microphone.
in fact i have been believeing my microphone was not working for a while because the sound level was sooo low (before the boost)
I use Skype to test the audio settings, there is an audio test (phone call test) in the option menu
With mic boost enabled, my mic works fine too, while without it the mic acts like it's not working.
Another thing to note is that Ubuntu uses Pulse Audio that has software and hardware mic boost enabled by default.
Just in case other are facing same problem the answer is here http://alsa.opensrc.org/Record_from_mic
"In order to record from a device, the device's "capture" switch must be set. To do so, run alsamixer, select your microphone and press space. Something like...
CAPTUR
L R
should appear. On some cards there is a separate "Capture" device, which must be set to capture as well (and be unmuted, and have volume increased)."

Tibi
Sorry for the delay; I will try again at some point; I had a few other projects going since I tried that. Let me get back to you
