Hi, I am new to this Slitaz program and I was wondering if anybody could help me with it. First, let me tell you that I am completley new at this. You can assume that I know nothing about this T_T I got to know this program just becasue I was using ophcrack live CD I was aiming to get my computer password(locked by my parent. The fk, I bought it using my own money -_-). Well, it seems that the password was too complicated so the CD failed but I found out that I can still using internet to some extent using Slitaz, so after using it for few days, I became interested in the program. So can anybody help me step by step from how to install the Slitaz 4.0 program on CD(USB perfered). I gave up on finding password long ago, so I might as well as use Slitaz to do what I want. Thank you in advancePosted 12 years ago #

Two things:
First, Most bios chips either have a overriding master password or a pin on the motherboard you can use to reset it. Hell, sometimes even removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes can reset the bios to default - wiping the password in the process. With the case of Windows, you can just use a Linux Distribution (like SliTaz) to access the disk without needing to know the password. This is how I got access to the movies my sister had on her laptop :P
Secondly, There are some tricks to installing SliTaz 4 like you want. Most are covered by http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:uncommoninst or http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:frugal
I haven't really done a flash disk install of SliTaz before, so beyond that I can't really help. I've only done hard disk installs using Tazpanel (SliTaz Panel) and that to the first partition on my drive. You may also be interested in using something like unetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/). With unetbootin, you may want to use http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/stable/flavors/slitaz-4.0-core.iso because the default iso is a 4-in-1 iso and unetbootin doesn't like that.Posted 12 years ago # -
Thanks for the help. Well yesterday I used 2 CDs and 1 usb to get linux mint 13 Maya 32bit, Utunbu 64bit, slitaz 4.0 (30mb one) USB. None of them worked on comupters I have. I have a labtop running on window 7 and a desktop running on window vista. As for the desktop, it didn't even boot and for labtop I keep getting "Err 0800 default error UI and stuff". All I want a do is watch some movies, listen to music, and use social networking. What should I do? What kind of program should I use for my computers?Posted 12 years ago #

You might find these useful:
http://rufus.akeo.ie/ [many Linux libraries like FAT32 format, some work with NTFS]
http://distrowatch.com/ (has a Search web page)I recommend you ask your parents to get you set up as a user on your computer so you can do more things safely. It may take some work, but would be very worthwhile.
PS - there are safe social networks; Facebook is not one of them.

And for stubborn isos, dd with Mandriva-Seed-v3.6.4 or Mandriva-Seed-v3.6.4. This may waste pendrive space, but gPartEd can help recover some.

@Somewhat Reticent Asking my parents for any permisson towards basic usage of computer is futile. That is why I am asking for help for how to use iso programs. Like I said before, I tried many types such as linux mint Maya, Ubuntu, Slitaz 4.0, but all failed to work on both Window vista desctop and window 7 labtop. Windows Vista (desktop) Compaq Presario PC SR5548F Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core Descktop Processor E2200 Memory 3072MB Hard Drive 360GB Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 Does anybody knows any iso program that will work on that computer I have?Posted 12 years ago #

Let's try explaining this: SliTaz, Ubuntu or Mint - any Linux for that matter - is not a windows program. It's an Operating System by it's own right, just like Windows is. It does not need Windows to work and can happily run on a system without Windows even installed.
With me so far? Some of the trouble is that Linux doesn't always like Windows partitions and prefers it's own partition with a Linux filesystem like ext3 or ext4. There are exceptions to this rule though. Most notably Slackware, WinLinux and even Puppy Linux. But generally Linux will be happy with it's own place on your hard drive.

Sure - a Windows Install ISO should work, if you start ("boot") the machine with it.
Just like if your system became totally unusable, and you had to re-install Windows.
(Careful: how would you re-install your parents' password(s)?)The Linux systems may have failed because they're supposed to be started when you start the computer ("boot") instead of Windows, not while Windows is running.
Normally, you would interrupt the normal startup process by pressing some key, like F10, F1, Esc or F2 - right after the computer is turned on, before Windows starts. There may be a few ways to "boot" a Linux system from Windows ... like WUBI or Portable'buntu; you'd have to learn how to use the Linux system just like you had to learn to use Windows.)
You might also want to consider just using portable programs, or "apps", perhaps from a pendrive.

Hi, I am a completely new user for SliTaz and for Linux as well--though I know my way around some computer systems. Anyway, since this is a help thread, I thought I'd continue asking for help... I installed SliTaz via Live CD over an extant Windows XP OS. When it started up, I got prompted for a Username and PW, ... so I entered what the PW had been on my XP, hoping that would work. Unfortunately, that was not the password, and I really don't know what it could be. However, I am INSIDE the OS, and I appear to have access to some things. But when I started reading the Getting Started doc, it tells me to go to TazPanel, and unfortunately there I only get prompted for a password again, with an eventual "401 Unauthorized" error. Trixar, I was particularly interested when you started talking about Master passwords and things like that--if you could maybe go into more detail on that, it might help. Thanks in advance, everyone.Posted 12 years ago #

Ha-HA! I figured out what the defaults were, lol. (default: root:root) But I still get the request for user and password each time I touch the tazpanel. I'd still like to end the need for that, somehow. Again, looking forward to your help :-)Posted 12 years ago #
