Hi there,
i am a total newcomer to Linux and am trying to get Slitaz running on an old Vaio notebook i have aquired, but am running into some problems...
Slitaz runs fine from the live CD but i want to install it to my hard drive and this is where things go wrong...
running the slitaz installer i only just get started before the error message "unable to find: rootfs.gz". i think that the problem is that whilst bios recognizes my cd rom drive (as linux boots from there OK), once the OS is running it does not recognise the cd rom. i have tried mounting it or even accessing it from pcman and i get "directory does not exist". the cd rom drive is external and seems to use some kind of proprietary sony card-type connection to plug into the notebook rather than usb. I cannot boot directly from usb as my bios does not see the usb as a boot device...
i have managed to download the .iso file from the site to my slitaz desktop in the hope that i can put it somewhere where the boot process will find it, but i don't know where to put it... failing that is there a way to get to the rootfs.gz file and copy it to the correct directory?
otherwise i have managed to make a usb pendrive with a live version on it using an installer program, but can i install from this drive in the os? do i have to specify to the installer to install from a different location? i can see the rootfs.gz file on the pen drive in windows as a rar file.
sorry for the long post but i am a newbie and have no experience of text entries, but am happy to try any suggestions and have a crack at command line stuff as long as the instructions are step by step?
i can't wait to get Slitaz running properly on my machine as it is very fast and works well for the most part!
any help would really be massively appreciated!
cheers,
Jamie
by the way i have created a partition for linux and deleted my windows partitions so the only os i am running is slitaz.

You may put the downloaded ISO image in /home/tux and mount it on /media/cdrom where the installer expects to find it:
# cd /home/tux # mount -o loop slitaz-3.0.iso /media/cdrom
