after several hours of discussing, thats what we agreed :
slitaz 5 used as an alternative rescue cause of the bad resolution
slitaz 5 used as specialized and business-made softwares
slitaz next used for common activities
so with triple boot taz5/next/w7with a non-booting to grub laptop, going to the battleground with taz5:
so :
-creating a new taz5 live usb
booting on it
creating a sda10 partition for third part taz tool
installing taz5 on that sda10
rebooting
changing hd,10 to hd0,10 in grub (wtf first time i have a bug with grub/taz5)
finally moving sda6 taz5 menu.lst to sda10 taz5rescue menu.lsthere i had a problem :
sda1to4 are for win
sda5 represents logical volumes
sda6 taz5
sda7 home
sda8 swap
sda9 NEXT
sda10 taz5rescuelaptop boots only on grub from sda10, even when the boot flag is reported to sda6 (original taz5 install) with gparted;
si i'm stuck with that, then i just check the handmade installation of NEXT mounting sda9, which seems fine from previous experimentation
then i just add next entry to the grub..i do have now a triple taz5, win7 and next boot on the laptop.. next steps are integrating home partition to next statup, which has notgin to do when mentionned in the grub boot loader

@kultex:
so the better way would be to bring the debian one, to convert it using tazpkg and to install it?going to see if its work..

-10 partitions!? Cool!
-By the way NEXT means comes next, I guess Aleksej is one guy working on it(his private side project) and it is work in progress, means Alfa, not even beta... I got this feeling 2 days ago trying next lxqt, reverted back to 5.0 and even have thoughts to install 4.0 stable instead...
- here clear outloud: http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/next/
"SliTaz Next ISO at the very early stage..."
- you can check packages available before spending 2 days installing here: http://mirror1.slitaz.org/packages/next/
- if there is no Thunderbird or VLC you can always download a .Deb or .rpm ... and convert it tazpkg convert ... Or help Aleksej to compile, so we all be happy and switch to next...I sorry for sarcasm, it took me two days to understand how slitaz is being developed, who develops it, it took you 1 year, and expectations are like to commercial Ubuntu with bunch of developers and plenty of resources... Hope I don't get kicked out of forum for speaking out liud

hi aledie;
thank you for the reply>-10 partitions!? Cool!
i have no choice :
three for windows 7 (the boot one, the C and the D)
one logicial, then three for taz5: /, home and swap
then now next and slitaz5 again. beautiful>-By the way NEXT means comes next, I guess Aleksej is one guy working on it(his private side project) and it is work in progress, means Alfa, not even beta..
i know:
i'm just here to test and to scream when there are problems, explain what i did, 'm doing and did when it's working again.>"SliTaz Next ISO at the very early stage..."
enough far to be the only one slitaz to support resolution of a netbook which older slitaz releases doesnt support.
that's sad,but i didnt decided it.>- if there is no Thunderbird or VLC you can always download a .Deb or .rpm ... and convert it tazpkg convert ... Or help Aleksej to compile, so we all be happy and switch to next...
gonna see for tazpkg convert this night. Finishing late work meanwhile.
the problem of slitaz is that it's going to be known for most and most users, and they dont have enough devs and time on it..... almost like mandriva.

You may try Porteus 4.0 rc4 (2-3x larger than slitaz but fast at boot to ram too, has all the newest software from slack repos you wish for, choice of lxqt, xfce, mate, lxde... Is). Worked on my pcs without a glitch even WiFi and graphics. Austrumi is another one nice and polished portable live distro. Dpup or LxPup gives you all the Debian or Ubuntu base, while small and portable. Antix and MX-17 as well if you don't need portable, want midweight and simple. I only picked slitaz as for it's size, speed and intent to use on a USB. You seem to make a full install on a HD, what is the point? You can have VLC and Thunderbird with Linux Mint, I run it as my main os on a 8 year old notebook, with LXDE, without compositing fast enough and recognizes every hardware. By the way, I have 11 years old Dell 700m running Antix, Pentium M, faster than windows 10 on new HP. Anyway,...
