Using a nvidia 9500gt card, i installed the driver using tazhw setup nvidia --non-free
then ran tazx
to pick the nv driver. The driver seems to be functioning ok. The problem I'm having is that after enabling my second monitor and closing the nvidia-settings window, all settings are reverted back when i immediately open nvidia-settings again (yes, using root to modify). I don't get any errors and nividia-settings seems to be operating normal. I'm using the xorg-light version because the standard version only booted to black screen and i have to pass the kmap=us lang=en_US
commands in order to boot. I've tried both the 173.xx driver slitaz defaults to and nvidia's latest (300 something). I've had fine success with the same hardware in Arch, Mint, Puppy, and Debian. Any ideas? This is the only thing keeping Slitaz from replacing my ubuntu/awesome setup. Thanks.

Additional Info: I noticed in terminal it was showing an error that said "
pkg-config not found
" i installed it rebooted with no change.Posted 12 years ago # -
Solved: It was the driver. I tried a slightly older driver 295.71 and it worked like a champ. The other drivers weren't seeing my second monitor correctly.

Just thought of letting you know that tazhw setup nvidia --non-free should have installed the non-free nvidia driver on your system. If you ran tazx and installed nvidia again, you would have replaced the non-free nvidia driver with the free nvidia driver.

Thanks, but the free driver would only boot my system to a black screen with no mouse. I also found out that I was doing it wrong by running
tazx
after installing the non-free driver too. That wasn't necessary and I think I was just loading the xorg-xf86-video-nv driver back in, wasn't I? Regardless, I followed the steps here http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/slitaz-40-rc2-install-nvidia-non-free-drivers and installed the 295.71 driver. The 173.xx driver that slitaz puts in is older anyway. Well, if anyone else has a similar problem, hopefully this will help them.Posted 12 years ago #
