I have been trying to get wifi, but it ask for a password. How do I set a password?

permanently ? edit /etc/network.conf=>WIFI_KEY

How do I do that? Is it done in the terminal or what? I have used 20 or so linux dis but have not needed to use the terminal before.

If the router you are connecting to has a password, sure you need to set one.
If not then not.1)Anyway, there is in the menu, somewhere under Preferences or Settings an item called WiFi Configuration. You click it and choose the WiFi spot you are connecting too, choose which kind of password (WPA, wep, none), if needed define the password. Click configure. Wait for a sec. You should be now connected. The wifi icon on the panel will be blue.
2) Sure you can also edit the config file by hand instead as Lego suggested above. Type in terminal:
sudo sakura /etc/network.confInput your root password. Enter. Endit manually the wifi settings. Save.

Understand now... Those 20 linuxes you used were probably Ubuntu based or mint, where the root password is disabled and you usually sudo with your user password instead...
In slitaz which is a traditional approach, not Ubuntu based, there is the root password by default obviously it is root, unless you change it
