Request for a new language in SliTaz: Greek translation team

I just joined and I would like to request the creation of Greek as a new language: I am setting up a Greek team of volunteers, for the translation of Slitaz (both the distro files and the website), in Greek. It might be a good idea to join the mailing list also so that the developers can contact you and give you access to the repos.

The thing is that every time I tried to click on the mailing list link, I get back this annoying message: "Not Found The requested URL /en/mailing-list.html was not found on this server." Where you found that link? The right link you can find in the SliTaz web site is: http://www.slitaz.org/en/mailing-list.php
Language support in the SliTaz contains several tasks:
- translate web site to your language (www.slitaz.org)
- translate SliTaz tools (boxes, scripts)
- improve existing receipts (not to delete language files if they exists, or add packages with language support) while SliTaz packages usually striped hard (doc, man, info, i18n just deletes) (hg.slitaz.org)
- add sub-forum (forum.slitaz.org) with your native language (there should be at least one person who asked questions, and one who can answer ;) or you can announce some things alone first time). BTW I have permissions to create Greek sub-forum.
- translate documentation (doc.slitaz.org)Constantine, I want to know abilities of your team to give you most matched advice. Knowledge of HTML and PHP (edit pages); using Mercurial (Hg); testing programs you translate to see all translated messages and can improve fuzzy translations; working with POEdit; knowledge of wiki syntax (doku wiki dialect); knowledge of target computer terminology in your native language. Please, describe me shortly that points, and I'll say you how to work in that case.
PS. I think, it may useful to your team to contact with Dimitris Douros, he translated TazPanel into Greek (and disappeared from project); you can find our listings in the older pages of SCN activity (or here).

I got in touch with Dimitris Douros and he replied that due to his personal agenda, he has abandoned the SliTaz project and he therefore hands over the continuation of the translation effort in Greek to my team.
I will shortly start posting over my contributions to this list. I made considerable progress with the SliTaz files.

I am still not sure if anyone knows PHP or using Mercurial (Hg), but I will find out and let you know.
I do not know what you mean by "testing programs you translate: or "fuzzy translations"
I do use frequently Po.Edit for my translations, so yes, I am familiar with that
There are people in GreekLUG who know how to use wiki syntax (I can't be sure about the doku wiki dialect though).
I am not sure what you mean by "knowledge of target computer terminology".I am waiting for further guidance.

Your team have a lot of work with SliTaz translations. Better, if anyone can deal with Hg, so you can push your translations and other changes to Hg on your own. If not—you'll want again and again ask some of developers to push these changes to Hg instead of you. It's not so hard but takes a time, your and others. So, better if you ask for Hg account creation writing to the mailing list.
Simple starting instructions how to use Hg you can find in the SliTaz Devel Corner here. As a further reading I can recommend great book Hg Init: a Mercurial tutorial by Joel Spolsky (I've read it in Russian translation, it's great!)
About PHP. Our web site use little amount of PHP scripts. You need only light PHP knowledge, let's say "copy these lines from here to there (to add yet another language), translate these words (and not translate these commands☺)". That's all. And you'll see just after pushing your php code, if you broke whole web site or not☺

HTML knowledge is light too. You just copy English page, translate to Greek all but words in angle brackets (like ‹p›, ‹strong›, ‹em› etc.) and push your page to Hg. You'll see your changes immediately.

You can translate textes in slightly different ways. You need to check your translations. Start your program and see it in your language. Is it Ok anywhere? Do you need to translate anything in other way? Or to short any long line? Etc…

Users who will use your translations knows how to translate computer terms to Greek, isn't it? I know in my Russian language that several words have translations that we not use in the computer terminology: Cookies—«фрагменты данных» (pieces of data), no it disappointed me and others, so better leave «Cookies»; «router» translated as «маршрутизатор» [marshrutizator] but better leave it as «роутер» [router]. And so on…

You can find dokuwiki syntax here: wiki:syntax. You can find this link every time you edit any dokuwiki page. You want to know it to separate what you want to translate from what you don't want.
