SliTaz 4 deletes files in one step

Actually, I never saw the point of Trash/Recycle Bins and I tend to disable them if I can. Even in SliTaz, if you try to delete a file or directory it will ask you if you're sure AND it defaults to No if you press Enter. How many more layers of protection do you need? If you then click Yes, it's your own fault...

Trixar_za: You are right that the default is NO option before delete the file.
It was just an observation on my part.
Thank you.Posted 11 years ago # -
Well, I'm just saying I count three steps (counting the two layers of protection) before a file or directory is is deleted:
1. Trying to delete the file makes the system prompt you with a question.
2. Since it defaults to No, you must explicitly click on the Yes to get to the next step.
3. Finally it deletes the file. All a trashcan/recycle bin adds is one (replacing the third step) more step:
3. Instead of deleting file it sends it to Trash can folder (unless you hold shift).
4. You must either empty the Trash can or restore the file - both of which requires confirmation.I'm not even sure if it asks your confirmation before sending it to the trash can anymore - I haven't used it in that long, but I can tell you that it was one of the more annoying features of XFCE4 or GNOME because I couldn't disable it.
The point is what protection does one more layer really give you? Is it really a 'good' reason against SliTaz? In my opinion it's not and treating it as such is unfair.

I agree that if I can do without, but I think it's really unlike when we throw away what we no longer see, but after 2 days I will try again.
The trash-basket does exactly just that function, and I do not mind :)Posted 11 years ago # -
Trixar_az: I agree that they are at least two steps before removing, and there are users who do not like the recycle/bin.
This post was not with bad intentions against SliTaz 4, on the contrary I am very happy to have and freely use this great OS ..
I just wanted to make that diferencioa of SliTaz 3 (where if there was recycle/bin) here it is, but this is not a malicious or destructive criticism against SliTaz.
I am very grateful as a user, the development team for this new version and unconditional support.
Sorry if my post was interpreted differently. ThanksPosted 11 years ago # -
Rerivero:
Linux provides freedom of choises. And SliTaz is not an exception from this rule. You can change this?
You can! ;)
PCManFM v. 0.5.2 is a legacy software, but very fast and lightweight and featureful. It covers almost all achievements of regular SliTaz users. But you always have a choise and free to install other file manager.
I'm sorry, I'm not work with next applications yet, but I want to recommend you that:
Next versions of PCManFM, that have been rewriten from scratch are provides many sweet features including Trash. But I think that it is not so stable as PCManFM Legacy. You'll find 'pcmanfm2' in the SliTaz repos.
SpaceFM is a fork of PCManFM Legacy too, and has been writted by another authors. It includes many and many great features too, I've read its site. I want to switch to SpaceFM these days. And you can find 'spacefm' in the SliTaz repos, and test it out, is it your best app or not.Posted 11 years ago # -
Well, with SliTaz 3, you could just switch to using XFCE4, which does include this feature. XFCE4 just doesn't work well with SliTaz 4 yet.

Ok .. thanks for your information Aleksej, and try to prove any of these options, and so can share with the community, and thanks for your answers Trixar_za
At least for me, I closed the topic. -Posted 11 years ago # -
Hmm. I have absolutely no luck with SpaceFM. PCManFM2 works partially. Can't open urls 'trash:///' & 'network:///'. Seems like there are some dependencies not installed. But what?
After some tribal dances with 'killall pcmanfm', 'pcmanfm --desktop &' and 'pcmanfm -d &' errors go away, and I can open empty trash. But I still can't delete file to trash in hard disk partitions. I can delete to trash in my home folder, but file after deletion totally disappeared and trash still empty.
Again errors. I have no clue.Posted 11 years ago #
