When I have free time, I visit forum and scn about 10 times a day.
Sometimes I see a lot of spam messages there. I want to kill these messages and spam accounts, but have no permissions, of course.
No, I want to be not a 'real admin', but in role of 'spam killer' to clean our pages from this garbage and garbagers.
No chance to spammers!

Spam in forum (or in SCN). Again...

does bbpress have any protective measures built in, or are there any good plugins?
Posted 12 years ago # -
Does it have protection built in? Not to my knowledge. There are a few plugins, but they need to be installed. I think the biggest help would be a captcha at registeration. Would also help if moderators could block users. All they can do is edit, delete and lock posts.

There is a captcha for registration. I always check "Recently Moderated Items" and verify the users are blocked. Blocked spammers keep re-registering. If there were plugins to blacklist i.p. address, allow members only one post per hour,no url links, limit length of post, and force a logoff/on between posts that could slow them down.

Which Captcha are we using? I know ReCaptcha is being bypassed by the truckloads from personal experience (worst spam week on my Wiki ever). I changed mine to solvemedia which can also help generate revenue. It seems to work pretty well. You can find it @ http://portal.solvemedia.com/portal/help/pub/wp/ (Not sure how well Wordpress plugins work with bbPress though)
Also I think this is probably what you're looking for:
http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/blocklist/You can find the whole lost of ones tagged as spam (prevention) @

If there were plugins to blacklist i.p. address …
Bad idea by design. I always connect via my EDGE mobile internet, and my operator have large pool of IP addresses. Block one of them? I can reconnect and give other IP. Block whole pool? No no. In other hand, I hear that many organizations have one IP address per many users. So, you can ban wrong man.
allow members only one post per hour
Not good. There are situations, when I want to post frequently. Maybe we can separate untrusted newbies. Say, first 10 posts as one per hour. Or create default group 'Newbies', and admins will change users group to 'Members' (its variant more bad than previous).
no url links
For what spammers spams? They waits that search engines will indexes these pages and will grow rank for object of spam. Links plays big role both for us and spammers. And forum without links seemed so poor...
limit length of post
This is not the solution.
and force a logoff/on between posts that could slow them down
My password is 12 symbols lengts, but many browser can remember the login and password, and paste them automagically.

@Aleksej and @Naitsirhc
You both are admin on SCN/forum now so you can mark user as spammer (from SCN user profile, top admin menu) and have full access to admin options, etc. And you have all my confiance!
@Aleksej I love your changes in Tazpanel!
:-)

Trixar_za ?? Jalous :-) You want an key master account ?
Posted 12 years ago # -
More that you promoted people above me including Ikem that's never here. Also would help if somebody would install the preventative measures I mentioned :P
Posted 12 years ago # -
Ikem asked me and edit my blog post on SCN to fix typo.
You Key master now and can do what ever you want :) And have also all my confiance. Also they is a bug in user roles because you was admin on SCN wich should equal to keymaster here since we share DB. But I had to edit both profile to have you as admin/key master on both. In forum dashboard you will find an entry--> wordpress integration.
We could also share cookies between both site so we have to login only once, but it does not work...
Kisses

May I suggest a "report spam" button?
And, I wouldn't mind having to enter a captcha to post.
