I downloaded the 4.0 RC1 live CD, which booted at the command prompt. By running tazx, then choosing nv, I could start the desktop with /etc/init.d/slim start. So I thought I was save and proceeded by installing slitaz to my harddisk of my laptop (P4/2.8Ghz/512MB).
Now slitaz also starts with the linux shell. Now when I use tazx to select NV, and then use /etc/init.d/slim start it says "Starting slim login manager: Slim .... [OK]", but the graphic shell isn't started.
I tried:
* Adding "blacklist nouveau" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. But tazhw --detected-modules and lsmod still shows nouveau, so I doubt if this had any effect.
* tazhw setup nvidia: seems to install okay, but end with "Error: unable to open display :0.0"
* tazhw setup nvidia --non-free: says Unable to find nvidia in the mirrored package list, same for get-nvidia. Then it asks me to remove xorg-xf86-video-nv. I continue, answer y to everything, it ends up being unable to start nvidia-settings.
* Added HorizSync 28-64 and VertRefresh 60 to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-Monitor.conf and Modes "1024x768" to 70-Screen.conf.
I think maybe it's because it's a laptop, the screen is handled differently than a normal external monitor??
