I'm sure this question has been asked 1000 times, but I can't seem to find a resolution to this "resolution" issue.
I have several OLD computers (p2-333,k6-2 500,p3-700 laptop) that I'm trying to install SliTaz on that are connected to LCD/LED monitors.
I get the ill fated "Cannot display in this video mode"... 1280x1024 60Hz is the optimal..."
The default boot (with no vga= parameters) DOES work with a P4-2.8Mhz with shared memory onboard graphics (Intel), on the same LCD monitor.
The default boot doesn't work with the aforementioned 3 computers, nor does it work with any of the 12 combinations of "vga= " numbers that are provided.
When I look at the boot log, they all read "vga=normal".
So, I swapped out the LCD monitor for a CRT, which boots just fine in default mode, but the resolution is ALWAYS 1280x1024, and the refresh rates are 46Khz & 87Hz respectively.
I'm not sure if its the graphics cards on the other PC's or not.
Both are ATI 3D Rage Pro (8MB) AGP2X.
Puppy Linux works on all these machines, but Puppy lags on two of them, and their newest version is optimized for i686 machines, which is of no help to me.
I tried SliTaz, and REALLY like it!, and it runs like a champ on these "antiques" of mine. I would really like to make this work.
I'd like to get the LiveCD to work first, before I decide to install it to the HDD, because I have a few more computers I want to try it out on.
I've seen where this situation has been remedied AFTER installing, but I'd like to try and solve it BEFORE.
Any suggestions?
Please let me know if I have not provided enough detailed info for you to be able to help me.
Thanks, and many appreciations in advance for your help.
Wulffie.
