Re: SliTaz Cooking 20140216

COOKING 16/02/2014 ON FUJITSU LIVEBOOK S752

4 x Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2370M CPU @ 2.40 GHz

8GB RAM

Boot from LiveCD = OK, but...

- no ethernet connection (ethernet controller Intel Corporation 82579V Gigabit Network Connection), e1000e missing --> unable to test wifi

- unable to eject the CDrom with the button of the CD reader; have to do it via SpaceFM

SpaceFM... (personal opinion)

I don't understand why we still keep this poor imitation of a file manager:

- does not see HD, have to mount it manualy

- neither friendly nor intuitive

- opens itself when inserting a USB stick (it's me the boss on my PC!)

Do you really think we are going to seduce newcomers/beginners with that?

Click on Home on desktop then File > Root Windows; enter the root password and... nothing happens.

Change of directory; go to /lib then File > Root Windows... still nothing.

Go to /lib/firmware and try again. Alleluia!

You have to be in a directory and that contains a .bin or .sh or .conf or any other text files that need root permission to be edited to open a root window. There probably is a logical explanation.

Please, don't let SpaceFM in SliTaz 5. I'm persuaded that most of us will remove it for a real Manager. Of course, if it stays, i'll continue anyway with SliTaz ;-)

COOKING 16/02/2014 ON MSNet (main board = Asus P4T, yes I know, even an antique)

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1500MHz

512MB RDR SDRAM

Boot from Live CD = OK, but...

- screen: see ACER

- SpaceFM: see FUJITSU (IDE DISK WDC WD800LB-00DNA0)

- ethernet = OK (Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+); wifi not tested, no wifi on this computer

- download/remove pkg via tazpanel = OK

Sorry, I forgot to test sound on my PCs and don't have more time tonight.

I'll be out for 3 days; tried to test it this week end.

To finish, won't it be more judicious to have the version with only 1 rootfs.gz as stable and the one multi-rootfs as flavour? And have a memory test, in case of insufficient memory, to display a message asking to download the 4-rootfs-flavour ?

Re: SliTaz Cooking 20140216

Acer Travelmate 5740G

tested two times.. one time LAN worked, the other time not. while I did not change anything.

found a small typo in the languages menu: it is "Schweiz", not "Schweitz"

resolution was detected fine

tazpanel worked fine

WLAN did not.

No Sound.

Space FM: no Harddrive shown sad

sorry to say so, but SpaceFM looks like fallen out from the 90s just like ROX. I would replace it with PCmanFM any second. it has an dated-looking and confusing interface, does not show my bookmarks by default, and does not show all drives.

Re: SliTaz Cooking 20140216

asus eee701

resolution ok,

no wifi

LAN works

no sound again

no SSD found in SpaceFM, but all cards and USB..

in taz panel, I select detect PCI/USB and the error message window only says:

"JavaScr...are.cgi (window title, can't resize it)

text in window: "1"

now I realised this happens on whatever item I click in TazPanel...

also I find the CD burning program is highly unintuitive.

the spreadsheet program is listed in Accessoires, should be in Office section?

Re: SliTaz Cooking 20140216

Installed on my old trustworthy Aspire One. Everything seems to work hardware wise, but get-flash-plugin doesn't work, and neither does google chrome.

Flash installer loops this:

Connecting to get.adobe.com (193.104.215.66:80)

-                    100% |******************************************************************************| 25048   0:00:00 ETA

Connecting to get.adobe.com (193.104.215.66:80)

-                    100% |******************************************************************************| 25048   0:00:00 ETA

Connecting to get.adobe.com (193.104.215.66:80)

And Chrome seems to be missing some libs after installation:

/opt/google/chrome-unstable/chrome: /usr/lib/libnss3.so: version `NSS_3.14.3' not found (required by /opt/google/chrome-unstable/chrome)

/usr/bin/google-chrome-unstable: /usr/lib/libnss3.so: version `NSS_3.14.3' not found (required by /usr/bin/google-chrome-unstable)

These are minor issues though. Will check if I can get an MTP connection to my phone tomorrow, no usb-cable at the moment.

@aniguenni

Search the repo for the tazpkg that owns the file:

[c]tazpkg recharge[/c]

[c]tazpkg search-pkgname acpi-cpufreq.ko.xz[/c]

Install the tazpkg which owns acpi-cpufreq.ko.xz

Re: SliTaz Cooking 20140216

HP ProBook 6475b, core flavor updated 19th of Feb, frugal boot.

Boots usually to graphics mode, however sometimes it freezes during booting or boots to text mode.

Resolution ok.

Wifi works ok (after installing broadcom-wl....)

Tazlito writeiso lzma works ok, however after booting with new rootfs.gz tazpanel doesn't work. Message "Cannot connect to destination (tazpanel)" pops up.

No sound. Chip: ATI R6xx HDMI. Alsamixer says "This sound device does not have any controls."

That's it for the moment. Will continue.

Maybe you have some specific requests what kind of tests should be performed?

Re: SliTaz Cooking 20140216

Alright, so I've tried getting SliTaz rolling working the past week on a desktop on mine, but I couldn't for the life of me get the network working. I decided to pull down the cooking release and post an issue here that I've had.

# lspci | grep -i eth0

00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562V-2 10/100 Network Connection (rev 02)

Alright, so there's an Intel network controller onboard. However when running ifconfig, no ethX device is present. Any attempt to 'up' any ethX device is simply met with the message:

"ifconfig: ethX: error fetching interface information: Device not found".

Appearantly it would seem the driver required for this network onboard system is not present.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but calling

#tazhw detect-pci

Yields a couple of loaded modules, and a single missing module called: agpgart_intel

Not sure if that's the missing component or not though.

"no sound"

I have no time at the moment to test new cooking - but can you try if "alsactl init" solves the problem - I think you have to install alsa-utils

@Ceel: yes and no. A bug in tazlito/tazpkg broke base, justx and gtkonly flavors of the 16/02 iso. Only core was ok. The 18/02 has the same package set with every flavor booting.

@moulefrite,

Did you boot from a live?

I'm just going to boot the last rolling directly from the iso file and have no problem to change the keyboard.

But I remember I meat the problem booting Cooking from a CD. I have to change keyboard at the first screen (languages); if I do it at the second screen it never works.

Re: SliTaz Cooking 20140216

I tried to do a full installation of Cooking on the ACER TRAVELMATE 632XV

Intel(R) Pentium(R) Mobile 4 CPU @ 1.66 GHz

256MB DDR SDRAM

IDE disk TOSHIBA MK2018GAP

As Cooking does not see my HD, first I tried to install from the last rolling in liveISO with TazPanel  -> PC reseted during installation (not enough memory)

Second, I installed from 4.0; all seems OK.

But at boot:[c]

   [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x3c00, size=0x2b4060]

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) Pid:1, comm: swapper/0 not tainted 3.2.53-slitaz #4

[<c15a1789>] ? kernel_init+0xfd/0x102

[<c1404736>] ? kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0xd[/c]

Because the kernel doesn't see my HD (only on the ACER), I suppose.

Last rolling (22/02/2014) sees my HD.

Rolling 09/02 an 15/02 didn't see my HD:

[c]root@slitaz:/home/tux# fdisk -l[/c]

root@slitaz:/home/tux#

Rolling 19/01 saw it but I can't mount any partitions on the ACER:

[c]root@slitaz:/home/tux# mount /dev/hda1 /mnt

NTFS signature is missing.

Failed to mount '/dev/hda1': Invalid argument

The device '/dev/hda1' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.

Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a

partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?

root@slitaz:/home/tux# mount /dev/hda5 /media/flash

NTFS signature is missing.

Failed to mount '/dev/hda5': Invalid argument

The device '/dev/hda5' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.

Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a

partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?

root@slitaz:/home/tux#[/c]

Can I do/check something else or end of the adventure for me?
