Re: how to install Slitaz 5.0 directly from web

Hello,

Most recent machines with on-board Ethernet have a PXE-capable BIOS. Look for this feature in BIOS menus and the BIOS boot menu and ensure it is activated. It may require you press a key, such as F12, during the boot process.

If your computer does not support PXE booting, you can use SliTaz as a client instead. Create a bootable CD-ROM or floppy disk with the Boot Floppy/CDROM tool found in the System Tools menu.

Web Booting

The SliTaz LiveCD has configuration settings to start your computer via the Internet. This is useful for using a newer version of SliTaz from older media.

You can start the automatic process with the following command at the SliTaz LiveCD boot-splash:

type "web" without quotes

or

from boot menu select Web Boot

You will need a DHCP server to get an IP address, netmask, gateway address, as per a normal network connection – a standard home router should be sufficient for this.

@ oui

starting from an old Slitaz CD?

No and yes.

No: booting from web with the LiveCD 4.0 and ask for cooking will connect you to the old cooking.

Yes: boot with the LiveCD 4.0, open TazPanel > Install; after GParted > [Continue] > hook Web and click on [Cooking]. This should work.

Booting Cooking from web without install it?

Download the slitaz-cooking.iso, mount it (ie: in /media/cdrom), copy /media/cdrom/boot/ipxe in your /boot/ directory and add this entry to your /boot/grub/menu.lst:

[c]# Booting SliTaz from web

#

title SliTaz GNU/Linux from web (need ethernet connection)

kernel (hd0,0)/boot/ipxe[/c]

Reboot and select the entry. Then select [c]SliTaz development version[/c]

Seems to be the cooking but I'm not sure because I have a window about soundcard that I don't have when I boot from the iso image; may be it is rolling. Can someone confirm ? And if it is rolling, is it possible to create an entry for cooking in the web menu? Thanks.

But whatever the version, not sure you have ethernet connection with it. Try and tell us.
