Xserver speed

I've noticed a significant speed decrease in all UI element rendering in Slitaz 4.0 when I switched from 3.0 (with a fresh install of 4.0). This slowdown is noticeable even in justx.

Since the Xorg version is the same (7.4 in both), I looked further down and noticed that [c]xorg-server[/c] went from 1.5 to 1.9.

I was actually able to install the old [c]xorg-server[/c] 1.5 from 3.0 in Slitaz 4.0 which did give the speed gain, albeit this doesn't give a very stable system.

Is there some stable way to run xorg-server 1.5 in Slitaz 4.0?

The closest I've gotten is to start with 4.0 core, switch to the 3.0 repository and install everything X related and then switch back to the 4.0 repo. Of course, with more programs, the dependencies catches up and I've never really made openbox work fully (although I don't really mind).

Also, are there other versions of xorg-server inbetween I can try?

Or maybe my problem is simpler than that and I just need to set a configuration option somewhere in [c]xorg-server[/c] 1.9? I'm using the default driver (which I think is vesa) although my graphics card is NVidia (but I would not like to use any nvidia drivers).
