slitaz is amazing 8-)

hi guys,

i've downloaded slitaz-3.0.iso and buned it on cd-rom to try this amazing os on my fujitsu-siemens lifebook p7010.

first of all - it work's great.

after testing a while, i couldn't change the screen resolution to s.e. like 800x600. don't know what i did wrong.

second problem i've got - no internet access by wireless lan. tried different configs and tried many times. have no clue, what to do to solve the problem.

i will test this on my home pc to find out more ...

thank's all a lot for this nice tiny linux distribution.

... also i tried slitaz-cooking, which doesn't work on my lifebook. after boot into x, the screen hangs. no access, what ever i pre configure on boot.

anyway, i hope, i can solve the probs above - this will help me to have lot of more fun while working on pc or notebook.

For Wifi, have a look @ http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:wifi-easy

As for the screen resolution, it will require an internet connection to work:

(Each Step assumes that you press enter/return after and sometimes during the steps)

1. Open xterm

2. Type su and enter your root password when asked *default is root)

3. Type tazhw detect-pci

4. Type tazhw detect-usb

5. Type tazx, Click on Install/Configure Xorg, click OK and allow it to download the packages lists.

6. Select your card type from the list and click OK.

7. After it's done, just close the box.

8. Back in xterm, type wget http://www.trixarian.net/downloads/lxrandr.tazpkg

9. Type tazpkg install lxrandr.tazpkg

10. Go to Start---> Preference---> Monitor Settings to change your resolution.

Technically, you just really need steps 1,2,8-10 but the others just makes sure everything is setup correctly to use it.

For Wifi do the following in an xterm (not sure if you really need to be root):

su (then put in the password root)

tazhw detect-pci --get-firmware (can take a long time, just leave it running)

/etc/init.d/network.sh restart

Over the weekend I put a mini-PCI laptop WiFi card (Intel 2100) in my embedded PC running SliTaz, followed the guide pointed above by Trixar, of which those commands were all that was required, and it worked perfectly.

For Screen Resolution, as a complete linux-newbie-idiot I tried loads of things to get it working and couldn't, so in the end I downloaded the VESA flavour of SliTaz which allows you to set resolution at boot up and also using the tazx command.

Actually, the normal one allows you to do the same. Just use check the command help guide at the Boot Baby, Boot screen (there is two options for it)

thank's very very much for this quick and helpful posts. wlan runs well. first i tried to download the packages by using other os. but i couldn't work it out. then i tried to connect lan. but couldn't. after a while i could solve the prob (typically newbie). long time ago i disabled lan in bios, wich caused the prob. after enabling and connecting with your description everything workes fine. thank's a lot for it.

i start to love SliTaz on my lifebook.

now i tried to run slitaz on an old pc (amd k6, 256mb ram, serial mouse ...). but i couldn't get the serial muose running. maybe i try slitaz_2.0 or slitaz_1.0?

sorry for my bad english, but i try to do my best.
