HD Install AAO 110 zg5

After numerous attempts to load different Linux OS's onto my netbook, none of which would run in either live and or install, including Slitaz 4 and 5RC1 I finally had success with 5RC2. It installed first go and actually rebooted. All good so far. Used the command line to make sure all is up to date. System tells me all is ok.

But....several things do not work. Slitaz Panel, Midori and TazWeb, Games, Package Manager to name a few.

My question now is....

does anything come to mind easily! (try reinstalling?)

What info would I need to extract and post?

Net book has 8gig SDA and 1.5gig ram (upgraded from 512m)Intel Atom 1.6ghz

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Wilky

Re: HD Install AAO 110 zg5

Take a look in '/var/www/log',  boot.log  ( mine on a 8GB hd and 256 MB RAM is here --

http://paste.slitaz.org/?ff9865fd497d10bf#YiDlnLclEm4cDoUH/1ojifUTx2tkpJ4eqPbb+Fwwzj4=

My VirtualMachine has only 256MB RAM & 8GB disk and RC2 runs without any problem.

So the netbook should give a very smooth SliTaz experience. A tazpkg get-install lynx can also help to check connections etc..

Hello geev03

First up I'm connected to the web through a wired connection ok, just can't open Midori or TazWeb browsers.

I tried '/var/www/log', boot.log and it did not recognise the command and tazpkg get-install lynx came back with unable to find: get-lynx in the mirrored packages list.

Hello wilky

-Use the text editor ,( Applications-> accessories -> Leafpad Text Editor), to check if Tazpanel webserver starting is there in the boot.log

-- Please try a tazpkg recharge , tazpkg upgrade and then a tazpkg get-install lynx

---lynx bbc.co.uk should give a screen line the one I attached before.

Re: HD Install AAO 110 zg5

hmmmm ok worked out how to get the boot.log and it appears I am having big problems with shared objects files and tazpanel gets no mention. Also trying to tazpkg upgrade I get grep: errorwhile loading shared libraries: libpcre.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

System is up to date

libpcre.so.0 is in the 4.0 repo not Cooking/Slitaz-5 repo.

When a program won't start that uses a shortcut, try to start it in terminal to get the error messages.

Search the repo for the tazpkg that owns the file with this command:

[c]tazpkg search-pkgname filename[/c]

If I was in your shoes I'd reformat and do a clean install.

Re: HD Install AAO 110 zg5

Thanks geev03 and mojo, I will give a clean install a go. Can I ask a couple more questions first though

What is the best format/partition for Slitaz, ext2, 3 or 4? Should I set up just 1 whole partition or set a home partition as well?

Mojo you said the libpcre.so.0 is in the 4 and not the 5. I could get the 4 to run live but for love nor money could I get it to load onto the hd.

What is my best move here, try 4 again or reload 5.rc2 and try and download the libpcre.so.0

Cheers Wilky

@wilky

Filesystem depends on your installation medium. If you're installing to a Flash USB or SD card, use ext2. If installing to a magnetic drive kind of internal harddrive, use ext4.

Also, I'm not sure what you're using that needs libpcre. Currently I'm on a somewhat fresh rolling release of SliTaz, and I have never had pcre installed in the first place. Is this a new thing?

Just to update all, The drive is a 8gig SSD.

What happens is I can boot into live from a cd with no problems and everything works. I can load the os onto my ssd and reboot but most of the programs do not work. Reboot live and all is ok. The thing I haven't tried is to do upgrades etc in the live version. Will try that Tuesday night on a wired connection.

I only have usb 3g and 4g dongles at home which do not work in Slitaz. Will work on that later.

I have a live cd and also a live usb, both of which work fine but same problem if I try to load to the ssd from either.

Libpcre? ok I have no idea if I need it.
