slitaz + wireless: some tips if you have troubles

I have done quite a lot of wireless tests the last time. As a result:

if you have any problems with wireless drivers I recommand to remove linux-wireless.tazpkg and to compile compat wirless drivers from here:

http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/compat-wireless-2.6-stable/v2.6.37/compat-wireless-2.6.37-4.tar.bz2

Install "make", "bash", "linux-module-headers", "gcc", "perl" and all depending.

tar jxvf compat-wireless-2.6.37-4.tar.bz2

cd compat-wireless-2.6.37-4

If you know what driver you want you can use driver-select:

./scripts/driver-select

install it with make  and then as root make install

perhaps somebody from the devs could do a compat-wireless.tazpkg - it seems that this is working much better than the default linux-wireless.tazpkg

Note, that there is no firmware included  in compat-wireless - so use either the default SliTaz firmware packages:

firmware-iwlwifi-1000 : Firmware files for iwlwifi 1000

firmware-iwlwifi-3945 : Firmware files for iwlwifi 3945

firmware-iwlwifi-4965 : Firmware files for iwlwifi 4965

firmware-iwlwifi-5000 : Firmware files for iwlwifi 5000

firmware-iwlwifi-5150 : Firmware files for iwlwifi 5150

firmware-iwlwifi-6000 : Firmware files for iwlwifi 6000

firmware-iwlwifi-6050 : Firmware files for iwlwifi 6050

firmware-rt2x00 : Firmware files for all rt2x00 modules.

get-wifi-firmware : Get misc wifi firmwares.

or just go to the chip venors site and copy the firmware to /lib/firmware

I got all my different cards and the computers of friends working with the compat-wireless drivers

except Atheros cards

Atheros cards work only with the experimental branch of slitaz-libre - read the note here:

http://listengine.tuxfamily.org/lists.tuxfamily.org/slitaz/2011/12/msg00012.html

note that the adress for the mirror there is wrong - it is missing a / - so correct is:

http://people.slitaz.org/~gokhlayeh/libre-develop/packages/

If you search for a good external stick, I just can recommand you the Zioncom WL0162 (about 25 €) - it is one of the best wireless devices I have been testing - it works only with compat-wireless
