cannot get WiFi to work eeepc1001p Atheros AR2427

Hi! thanks for Slitaz and this Forum.

I have looked thoroughly in this forum, the eeepc forum and other places in the web. But did not manage to have Wifi working in my netbook.

I have Slitaz booting well from a usb flash drive (the Stable, for the Cooking keeps stalling on boot - I have used tazusb.exe to make the flash drive).

I only have Windows XP, no acess to CD drives whatsoever, nor I can wire myself to the modem.

So I am restricted to my netbook, the Wireless connection and a 124Mb flash drive. And I am a total zero with computers or OSs.

Can someone help me with a solution?

where to find the kernel modules? how to add them to my flash drive so that when booting I can then install them on Slitaz?

Thanks in advance for your attention.

And many thanks and congratulations for this wonderful project of yours.

small is beautiful (and fast!)

Re: cannot get WiFi to work eeepc1001p Atheros AR2427

Atheros cards work only with the experimental branch of slitaz-libre - read the note here:

http://listengine.tuxfamily.org/lists.tuxfamily.org/slitaz/2011/12/msg00012.html

note that the address for the mirror there is wrong - it is missing a / - so correct is:

http://people.slitaz.org/~gokhlayeh/libre-develop/packages/

but think - its linux libre, so you have to do flash the manual way....... and its experimental.... so not as stabil as cooking, but the atheros card works out of the box

thanks for the reply.

I can not get slitaz-libre nor slitaz-cooking to boot from the usb drive.

only Slitaz Stable 3.0 boots from the usb flash drive.

is there a way around this problem?

Re: cannot get WiFi to work eeepc1001p Atheros AR2427

Thanks for your reply.

I will try with ctkarch.

Meanwhile I have tried Slitaz-Cooking and Slitaz-Libre on another NetBook,

the Acer One 110L.

It boots well, runs smoothly, fast and getting WiFi is easy.

I wonder why making these more recent releases to boot from a usb flash drive on the Asus eee 1001P does not work. I have seen people with the same problem in other foruns. But up to now no solution. I suspect it is not the xorg for the Stable 3.0 boots and runs very well.

It's a pitty though for Slitaz runs smoother and faster on my pc than any version of Puppy or Knoppix I know of.

Re: cannot get WiFi to work eeepc1001p Atheros AR2427

Here is the output of lspci

http://www.linuxer.onlinehome.de/download/lspci-1001p.txt.gz

- this means that cooking and slitaz-libre X should work if you boot to the shell with bootparameters

screen=text

then log in as tux

get root with "su" and root password

and then tazx

get user tux with exit

then startx

Re: cannot get WiFi to work eeepc1001p Atheros AR2427

Thanks for your reply.

I had tried that before (screen=text).

The system stalls at

[<c1003a76>] kernel_thread_helper+0x6 0x10

and after that not even <Ctrl><Alt><Del> works.

I really would like to have Slitaz-Libre running in my machine.

I have tried many other distros, DSL, Puppy, Knoppix, Tiny Core, etc.

And from the experience with Slitaz 3.0, I believe this is the best distro

for my first steps with Linux. But I need WiFi working.

Re: cannot get WiFi to work eeepc1001p Atheros AR2427

The same exact usb flash drive boots well on an Acer Aspire One 110L.

(I cannot get the X Gui there though as I do with Cooking on the same machine,

the screen is a mess, but the OS is up and running...

I will try to solve this screen resolution problem latter).

It's just on the Asus 1001P that it stalls.
