How to run a Windows portable application on Slitaz?

Hi guys!

I have a lot of Windows portable programs on my HD and I want to run them on Slitaz. I've tried to run them using Wine, but it didn't work.

Is there any other option/solution that I can use?

Thanks in advance.

Did you consider virtualbox ? It is not uncommon that I will have 1XP +1linux virtual machine running.

@christophe

Yes, I had considered using Virtualbox, but to run a 10MB Windows application I need 3GB of HD (to install a virtual machine of Windows XP). I'm looking for a more "economical" solution.

ok

on the other hand, to use windows to run a windows application does not sound unreasonable... (specially if wine will not do the job)

Seems like you will likely have to dual boot, if those programs are that important for you to use.

Use SliTaz (or other Linux) for sensitive stuff, like online, & keep the security up to date; use your old Wiindows & programs when you need to.

Edit: You could try to find F.O.S.S. substitutes for those programs.

hi,

perheaps try to use ThinApp on Wine; make your little soft portable within Wine.

I always dreamed about having my Word and Excel portable running from live Slitaz.

Kind of stand alone exe file bundled with a stripped out wine whatever Slitaz version one have

Windows XP + XPLite + Deleting Help files + Installing .NET frameworks and DirectX 9.0c = ~1.5GB - just saying tongue

yeah, thats why i think all this bunch of files should be placed outside the Iso, into an executable file

Re: How to run a Windows portable application on Slitaz?

Thank you guys for your contributions!

@christophe Yes, to use Windows to run a Windows app is a logical idea, but I want to be free from Microsoft...

@fatmac The Windows programs I have don't have a linux equivalent; some of them are used to make calculus and graphics for engineering.

@moulefrite I'll look for ThinApp; maybe this could be a good solution. A single EXE file is much better for me.

@Trixar_za 1.5GB is better than 3GB; I'll create a virtual machine according to your suggestion.

If someone have any other idea, please fell free to comment here. XD

Re: How to run a Windows portable application on Slitaz?

2GB should be enough. I have a 4GB partition with Windows XP on it and it's currently taking up about 1,5GB, but that's just to test a modified video driver I made for some Intel GMA chipsets. Like I said, it has been stripped a bit and I installed .NET 4.0, 3.5 and 2.0 along with DirectX 9.0c on it to test games with.
