Hi,
I'm totally new to Slitaz, and i was happy when i found this distro, because i have some old laptops, and i want to install a fresh OS to them.
On my old K6-2 machine, with 64Mb RAM, Slitaz 3.0 gives this error message :

(After "Trying to unpack rootfs as initramfs"...)
It happens on a virtual machine with 64Mb RAM too, and it happens when i'm trying to install 3.0-loram flavor.
So can someone help me to install Slitaz to this amount of RAM?
My other question is that how can i change screen resolution on Slitaz 3.0? It is working on a P3/700Mhz notebook, but only in 800x600, i need 1024x768 (LCD can do it).

With the rolling you can install the lxrandr package.

I tried the loram flavor, but it gave me the same error... 2.0 loram is booting on a virtual machine with 64Mb of RAM, but X gives only an empty screen.

I tried the loram, not the loram-cdrom.
Can i install the loram-cdrom to HDD?
Or is there any other flavor, that i can install to HDD, and has a GUI?
(I can live with kernel 2.4, if there are not so old packages for it, so i need mainly Pidgin, or other IM client.)

OK, 3.0 loram-cdrom is OK on a virtual machine. Can i install this on a HDD, to eliminate the need of a CD-ROM?

3.0 loram-cdrom gives me almost the same error on the pysical machine with 64Mb RAM. After it tries to mount /dev/cdrom , it runs into a Kernel Panic - not syncig message.
I think it can be because the machine itself cannot boot from CDROM, but from a floppy, which boots the disk in the CD-ROM drive.
Anyone can help with solving this issue?
On the machine, there is a Slackware 10, which installed easily, without booting problems.

Use slackware as your install platform.
Should work if slackware's lzma and cpio are capable of extracting the slitaz rootfs.gz
Boot into slackware,loop mount the slitaz iso.
Mount your target install partition.

I'll try the Slackware solution, but i haven't got time.
I had to install on another P3 computer, to the old P1's HDD, where Slitaz (3.0 loram-cdrom) booted fine. If i put it back to the original old computer, it runs into a kernel panic, saying that it cannot boot, cannot find the specific partition. Grub is OK, set root hd0,2 , and root=/dev/hda3 , wich is correct, i think.
If i change these settings, there is no change.
Is it a chance for that the HDD controller is the problem?

Hi,
I tried manual install, but there is no advance; kernel panic at boot.
I think the problem is the IDE controller, is there any workaround for old HDD controllers?

Slackware 10 installs OK, but Tiy Core Linux cannot see the /dev/hdx or sdx after boot from LiveCD.

That sounds like the problem that's common on late model motherboards, especially the Asus P5QL Pro. (because a lot of distros seem to not support the Marvell 88SExxxxx PATA IDE controller)
Not likely on pre-2007 hardware.
I can't see why it will fail to detect regular PATA IDE controllers of the late 1990s and before 2006.
Even though the AntiX kernel keeps giving me "kernel panic: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block" on an 845 chipset Dell. (2003)

It can be because of booting a floppy, which boots the CD in CD drive?
