Resolving HPLIP Runtime Dependencies

I'm beginning the process of installing my HP LaserJet P1006 printer under Slitaz 4.0 (stable). I've installed hplip-3.12.2.tazpkg and am now looking at runtime dependencies by running < hp-check -r >. As I've installed successive packages to provide the needed runtime dependencies, and then run < hp-check -r >, cupsd is not running, and the printer is not connected. After all runtime dependencies have been satisfied, I will go online with cupsd running and the printer connected, and I'll run < hp-setup >. According to the HPLIP website, the HP LaserJet P1006 monochrome printer does have full HPLIP printing support, but requires a proprietary plugin, which must be accepted and downloaded online.

I'm getting 6 error or warning messages, as follows:

The packages qt4 and notify-python are installed, so right now I'm assuming that the corresponding dev packages for those might be needed. I don't see python-libnotify or SANE - Scanning Library, nor PyQt 4 DBus, in the repository (Slitaz 4.0 stable). The errors related to hplip.state and hplip.conf are probably due to the printer not being connected.

Help would be appreciated resolving the REQUIRED/RUNTIME ONLY dependencies, and finding any remaining packages that might be needed. Note that the HP LaserJet P1006 is a printer only, and does not have fax or scanning capabilities, so any dependencies indicated for scanning functions could probably be considered erroneous. I've appended the complete hp-check.log.

UPDATE: The following packages have now been added (10-1-2014), and now only 3 errors or warnings are displayed, disregarding the lack of hplip.conf and hplip.state files, which I assume will be generated when the printer is connected and installed. Only 2 of the errors are REQUIRED/RUNTIME ONLY dependencies.

UPDATE: No success here as of 10-03-2014 resolving the remaining 3 optional or required dependencies.

1. PyQt 4 DBus - DBus Support for PyQt4 NOT FOUND! This is a REQUIRED/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. Please make sure that this dependency is installed before installing or running HPLIP.

2. Python libnotify - Python bindings for the libnotify Desktop notifications NOT FOUND! This is an OPTIONAL/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. Some HPLIP functionality may not function properly.

3. SANE - Scanning library NOT FOUND! This is a REQUIRED/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. Please make sure that this dependency is installed before installing or running HPLIP.

Google searches found the following recommendations:

1. PyQt4 - Dbus Support. Install python2-qt. (This package is not available in the Slitaz 4.0 repository.)

2. Python bindings for the libnotify Desktop notifications. (No pertinent recommendations found.)

3. SANE - Scanning library. Uncomment or add hpaio and hpoj to a new line in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. (This was done, but no change.)

Lacking any suggestions from the forum, I will run < hp-setup > as things stand now and log the results. I have another option to try, other than HPLIP, and that is the foo2xqx driver, which is available here:

The foo2xqx driver is actually the only driver recommended by Openprinting.org for the HP LaserJet P1006, although HPLIP claims that its software fully supports printing functions.

This issue is at a deadend, so marked resolved. The HP LaserJet P1006 is a problem printer, as far as any Linux distro is concerned. It requires both a plugin and firmware download. The foo2xqx driver is not available, due to Slitaz 4.0 lacking the dc (direct-connect, terminal mode) package, which is needed to download the firmware. The hplip-3.12.2.tazpkg can be expected to show unresolvable dependencies, however, for any HP printer installation, since packages to resolve those dependencies are not available in the repository.

Slitaz 4.0 is a cleverly designed distro, but not the answer for the HP LaserJet P1006 printer, which is not-so-cleverly designed.
