I just tried out SliTaz 5 RC2 and wanted to report some problems that might be corrected by the next version, and perhaps see whether there are some solutions for me to be used even in the current RC2 version. I'm using a liveusb, and made this by means of the tazusb gen-iso2usb command from within slitaz 4 (using sakura terminal). The filesystem I used on the usb stick is ext3.
First of all, tazbox keymap doesn't work. None of the keyboard setups seem to have any effect. I have an azerty keyboard, and it's currently using a qwerty setup, so it's annoying.
Next, I'm having difficulty with my graphics/screen. The screen is off-center (part of the desktop on the left side can't be seen on my monitor). My monitor has no adjustment buttons (SyncMaster SA10). The problem occured on slitaz 4 too, as well as pretty much any other linux distro (that worked with me). In slitaz 4 however, the LXRandR worked, and I could change the resolution (to 1024x768, and some other resolutions), after which the screen was re-centered and the problem disappeared. In slitaz 5, I can only keep it at 1 resolution. I should note that I also have a radeon card installed, but I set this off in the BIOS (still in machine though). As too is the case in other linux distro's, simply having this card in my machine causes some minor issues, such as the displaying of a white box in a section of the screen. This didn't occur however when I didn't have any graphics card in my machine at all. Switching on the card in the BIOS isn't an option neither since slitaz 5 doesn't work then anymore (with slitaz 4 it did work); since I'm still using other linux distro's too however that don't work with card neither (only with on-board graphics), I rather not use the card at all (and only use this card when booting windows).
I tried to resolve the issue by typing "xrandr -q" in the terminal, but that gave the error "failed to get size of gamma or output default". The command xrandr -s 1280x786 also didn't work. I saw there's an xorg driver for ATI radeons, which I haven't tried to use yet, but as said I rather not use the graphics card at all. Perhaps that using a different gui program might solve some things ? I'm thinking of ARandR or Zarfy; if that would work that would also extra improve slitaz a bit for me, since I rather delete all LXDE-derived programs from the system (and use openbox-optimized programs, or other very lightweight programs). Something tells me however that the problem might not lie in the gui-program, since even xrandr doesn't work (using the commands).
Another minor issue I find is that when using the slitaz panel with my liveusb slitaz 5 is that when I download firefox with it, it displays a sort of error box with "1" in it, and which you need to click on OK. That's not really a problem, but looks a bit weird.
Finally, a last issue I had with slitaz 5 (which didn't occur in slitaz 4) is the fact that when booting, it first displays first screen/text:

Is it possible to remove this first screen (is this btw because of syslinux which first starts and itself starts extlinux ?) ?

As you might have read at my other post (http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/making-user-and-root-account-at-splash-screen ), I'm looking to alter this to allow logging in as root or as user, either with or without persistence.
The labels should hence become:
* log in as root
* log in as root + persistence
* log in as user (tux)
* log in as user (tux) + persistence
* install SliTaz to HD
* help and options
* Command line
* PXE boot
I'm wondering whether I'll need to extlinux.conf or the syslinux.cfg file (I assume there will both be a syslinux and an extlinux folder at /home/boot/, since I read that syslinux itself boots extlinux).
RC2 is long a go - lots of changes have been done

@Sidini I tested a new rolling 3 weeks ago and this one had no problem, but of course something can happen....
@mjet this might be a general SliTAz problem, as Slitaz does not have all video drivers on board

There was no problem on Slitaz 4.0, this problem came on cooking 5.rc1-2 and rolling

I knew of the rolling releases, but I was under the impression that these were tryout releases before a cooking version was made of it (the cooking version being SliTaz 5 RC2). Am I wrong in this and it this actually a sort of later version of slitaz (aka Slitaz 6) ? If so, one of the rolling releases should be mentioned at the main page of the slitaz site ( see http://www.slitaz.org/en/get/ ). Can you tell me btw which version I should pick; there's a slitaz-rolling-10in1.iso, slitaz-rolling-core.iso, slitaz-rolling-core64.iso, slitaz-rolling-preinit.iso, and a slitaz-rolling.iso. The 64-bit versions I can't use, but I'm not sure about the others. If you can let me know which one is rather stable, I'll give it a try and see whether it solves some (graphics) problems. Also, will a SliTaz 5 RC3 will still be made, or will development happen only on the rolling slitaz platform ? The aim is to make a new stable flavor for server use (if it's possible to upgrade the rolling slitaz version after having made a usb stick from it, the rolling release version would have my preference).
I'll read the info and try the commands in the other responses found here btw, perhaps I can solve some issues with it.
PS: besides updating the http://www.slitaz.org/en/get/ website (if need be, depends on the answers on the questions above), there is another small flaw that can be correct at the website: the link to slitaz pro in the black navigation bar; currently it links to http://www.slitaz.pro/ whereas it needs to link to http://pro.slitaz.org/ It's best to change all links automatically btw (i.e. using dreamweaver, ...) since the link is incorrect in a lot of pages.
I got a little further.
First, for the graphics problem; I installed these via the TazPanel (not yet standardly present in slitaz5 RC2):

That didn't work, so I went ahead and typed the command:
# tazhw detect-pci
that gave
! missing module agpgart_intel
Sadly, doing #tazpkg get-install agpgart_intel gave an error (file not found). Perhaps it's (part of) a differently named package ?
Next, I tried a #tazx command:
gave No DRI_CreatePCIBusIDsymbol, no kernel modesetting, number of created screens does not match number of detected devices, configuration failed
For the keyboard, the problem seems to be a problem mentioned over 2 years ago (see http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/how-to-switch-a-keyboard-layout-in-slitaz ), but which has since not yet been corrected, and remains to be directly downloadable from the main slitaz website even (slitaz 5 RC is linked as the main cooking version). I don't really understand how this hasn't been resolved untill now (as changing the keyboard won't work with it for anyone, not just on my pc), but anyways:
I read that the tazx command first needs to be done to make a d40.conf file for the keyboard (weirdly enough). So I did the tazx command first (see above).
Next, I swapped out the the incorrect 40-keyboard.conf with the a corrected copy. I probably did something wrong since slitaz then reverted to a black/white text screen, and I then gave up that day. Since there are also other files that need to be changed (see blackdog's comments), I probably just didn't do it right, and the error can be fixed. I gave up however since I don't have persistence yet, so fixing the issue wouldn't improve my system anyway; I first still need to solve the persistence problem first.
For the persistence problem:
Weirdly enough, slitaz 5 RC2 does have some degree of persistence. In one of the previous times I used it, I installed firefox, and looked up some things online. When I booted the next day, I found there was still a link in the menu to firefox (firefox itself not being installed anymore), and once I reinstalled firefox, I could even recover my old search history. I completely don't understand how that is possible. Even if the home= line was standardly added to slitaz5, I understand that the user still needs to do a "tazusb writefs lzma" command (see http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:persistence_splash ) and then finally also add the made gzip to the boot screen to load the changes. I didn't do this, and yet I still managed to retain some data. Can someone help me to understand this ? Also, if I login as root (log out as user, and log back in as root), would that allow me to even store applications, ... such as firefox, and if so -again- howcome ?
PS: I added in the slitaz5 and lxle (a working other distro) in annex. I'll post a package list of a slitaz4 or a working other distro (rolling release) later, that way I can compare the lists and see what package wasn't present which I need for the graphics. I'll try a rolling slitaz version in a few days and post comments later.
Here is the package list of slitaz4. I btw noticed that there is no mountbox present in slitaz5, so I'll need to find the package for that too and make sure I include it in my new slitaz version.
My last rolling was 27-10-2014 and everything is working fine.

the problem is I have no GMA500 - Pulsbo machine to test it
and this chip is not supported by the intel driver - generally the pulsbo support on Linux is very poor.... see here

you get to the login promt - you type tux and then enter
then you get root with: su and the password root
then you enter the following commands:
# tazpkg remove xorg-xf86-video-vesa
# tazpkg -gi linux-staging
# modprobe psb_gfx module
type exit to get tux again
then startx

I installed poulsbo GMA 500 2 years ago on my Dell Mini 10 (Mini 1010) in slitaz 3.2 (I think it was).
The graphics are still working fine at 1366x768 resolution.
uname -a in a console shows:

Now I have SliTaz 5.0 RC-2 release - 19 May 2014 installed on another partition on my Dell Mini 1010.
I have been trying to get the poulsbo GMA 500 graphics working in this newest slitaz version.

I substituted xorg-xf86-video-fbdev-0.4.4.tazpkg for the 0.4.2 version. (the 0.4.2 version is no longer available).
I followed your instructions above and tried startx as a regular user and as root.
I'm not having any luck at the moment.
Is there any thing or any files that I can use from my 2 year old slitaz install to make poulsbo GMA 500 work on my new slitaz 5.0 installation?
