divers distributions offer a way to build the system completely fresh from sources in a CLI monitor of that or from an other distro!
I did do it recently: after 48 h (the PC did not work all the time as I did start the step nights and I can not see how long it did work!) I did have a fully operable new distro entirely build out the sources. The probably most known way is to build Debian with «debootstrap» and rebuild it after that completely using apt-build (separate extension from apt-get! You have to install it over apt-get!). Divers other distro offers such experimental solutions.
Is that possible with SliTaz, not step by step one package after the next (there are about 43 packages in the Slitaz base, corresponding to «rootfs4.gz»), but with a script perhaps running by night as you are sleeping ;-) ?

build your own kernel, which contains only those drivers you need - I think a SliTaz like this is the most efficient system you can get - maybe ??? the x86 system of openwrt is more efficiant - but I dont think.....

Voyage linux is another option - http://linux.voyage.hk/
but for me no choice....

oh! thank you very much Kultex, they are best linux solutions.
but it is not really what I am looking for now. the distro used in my experiments is the Swiss Romand distribution NuTyx (going now with his new release since way like SliTaz and before SliTaz, Mandrake, not French any more but English oriented now. It is only the begin but will end so... And with that distro you can build the LinuxFromScratch base containing all developments tools and the kernel (through a selector made in dialog) in 2 days entirely from the same sources as LFS is using actually and continue with about all packages from Beyond Linux From Scratch (especially a big installation from KDE including Calligra etc. And the new version uses a completely new (not completely finished actually, this is the inconvenient at this time: it works, as far as I did understand, in installations mode with binaries. For building out sources there are yet some restrictions.
as SliTaz has also since beginning of SliTaz a handbook Slitaz From Scratch method based on sources, my question was if SliTaz did already think about or realize an "automatism" to build the slitaz base or more compiling the sources.
