app's for console mode

As SliTaz will not start regular on my actual main PC (Dell SX 280, Pentium, ab. 1,7 GB RAM, 1/2 TerraB HD, no windows software any more long years ago, all partitions excepted SWAP are ext4, all good but the terrible Intel-Chips set! Main complete system is Kubuntu 14.10. Main used system is actually is Tahr Puppy Linux, compatible with that Kubuntu version so that the interexchange of binaries is possible, and it works really fine) I did install a console mode SliTaz 5.0rc2 with

- alpine email client (includes Pico editor)

- retawq, lynx and links2 used in console

- sc spreadsheet

- rhapsody irc client

I will continue and add sound (alsa), scanner (sane), as well as, if possible try to use libsvga with zgv (pictures wall and presentation), magicpoint, and perhaps try to revitalize arachne (old graphic mode browser in linux-svga-version) but it is future...

actually, I have a reverse:

I did install without toil

- lua

- luafilesystem, both are packaged for SliTaz in 5.0rc2 too.

but it was not possible to compile properly

- wordgrinder V0.5.1, probably the best word processor in linux console / server mode

because Zlib is not complete.

an idea how to overcome this difficulty?

PS: I did install gpm, very usefull in above browsers and to copy from console to console marking text and hitting the middle mouse key, but

how to activate / start it?

Why SliTaz should not boot to X on your P4 - did you try to boot with bootoption "nomodeset"?

And if this does not work, boot with the bootoption "screen=text" and run tazx and install the intel driver.

But why do you use a P4 - I am a fan of old hardware because of ecological reasons and I use quite a lot of those old machines, but a P4 belongs to the junkyard - because of ecological reasons - I bet your machine runs at least 100W in idle and will go up to 200W working ....

A Banana Pi or the new Odroid C1 take max 10W  - performance is minimum the same and the price of 35€ is nothing compared to your electricity cots of the P4

ok - SliTaz is not available for those units until now, but I hope it will....

I have to reactivate my old PC where I can't boot in graphic mode actually.

But more:

It seems not to be possible any more to use retawq any more as console mode browser:

- it does not open http://slitaz.org

(line before foot line: B - http://www.slitaz.org:80/ )

(foot line: Document complete (server status:200 - okay)

- it opens http://forum.slitaz.org and accepts the login parameter

(foot line: Really submit this form to "http://forum.slitaz.org/bb-login.php" (POST)? (y/n)

but does not redirect after yes

(foot line in red: redirection problem)

and seems not willing to work at google, starpage, yahoo,duckduckgo (and http://slitaz.org, where the practical search field would be available!)

(line before foot line: B - https://startpage.com:443/ )

What is to do?

And what is to do to inverse the colors of background / text?

Try another browser, for slitaz 5.0RC3 or newer it's possible to install it easy:

Run command:    [c]tazx[/c]

(for root user select  'wm_apps Install Window Manager and applications')

select BROWSER

select show_ALL  +Install

Choose browser to install

> inverse the colors of background / text?

For this best choice is elinks, but you can try other console browsers: w3m,links,lynx.
