5.0 cooking mc Ctrl-o doesn't get me to a shell, Alt-p not working

When in mc I'm used to Ctrl-o taking me to the output screen and giving me a shell prompt where I can repeat the previous commands (up arrow) or type another.

Also, when on the main mc screen Alt-p is supposed to take me back through the command buffer, but most times I just get a p character.

Any ideas how to fix it?  I use mc a lot, LOL.

Thanks...

Alt-p = Esc-p

also try alt-h

Ctrl-o as I remember requires bash -c 'mc'

Re: 5.0 cooking mc Ctrl-o doesn't get me to a shell, Alt-p not working

Thanks for the reply, again.

I've never used a linux distro that wasn't using bash for a shell before.

What shell does SliTaz normally use, then?  I'm guessing it would be real bad to change the default to bash?  It asks me if I want to make bash the default when it installs mc, but the default is no.

Ok, the Esc-p does work.  It makes no sense to me though because I can see the Alt-P in mc's keymap file.  At least the esc-p does work.

The shell still doesn't work.  I can see the output, but don't get any prompt, so can't enter commands.  I see its the current version of mc.  I don't really know enough to do anything but run it or not, or at most install something.

That was my favorite linux program.  NC was my favorite DOS program, and they did a great job super-cloning its functionality.
