LiveCD creation fails in 4.0 RCI

When I try to create a liveCD I follow the prescibed process, as in earlier versions, but my new CD fails with this message on boot up  "    could not find ramdisk image    /boot/rootf4.gz"

The process appears to evolve in a satifactory way but fails to boot

Yes I have been having the same problem with LiveCD in SliTaz 4.0 RC1.

SliTaz 3.0 LiveCD however works every time, which is why I can confidently agree with what you are reporting. I also have not yet succeeded in burning a LiveCD with SliTaz 4.0 RC1.

Message at boot:

"could not find ramdisk image /boot/rootf4.gz"

On checking the files on the cd, there is a rootfs.gz (as with SliTaz 3.0) but no other .gz files where rootfs.gz is.

I also had problems burning the cds, using the same methods I used with SliTaz 3.0, there were frequently messages about "unable to mount" or "unmount so Tazlito can handle the files on the media".

Also if you have 2 cdrom drives then expect lots of fun and games using the burning software.

It seems to get confused in assigning cdrom mounts, and whenever I tried something and clicked enter, the program closed .. (failed try again)..

Also probably unrelated, I also got another boot message from my motherboard when trying to boot the SliTaz 4.0 LiveCD, it said "Update AMD data change. New Data to DMI" whatever that means?

Re: LiveCD creation fails in 4.0 RCI

.....these are just the sort of things that RCs are for....detecting problems for correction prior to a full release.

On a positive note, Slitaz 4.0 looks 'classy' and sophisticated, I did manage to get a liveCD burnt by, oddly enough, using an old 'erased' CDRW rather than a brand new CD. Slitaz presented as a very attractive and practical operating system, appealing enough to use 'as-is'. Wireless worked on my eeePC701sdx.

I couldn't find an 'install' gui.

You can check this at the links.

@gabrielpsp

Wow! Nice desktop konfiguration (I mean the Slitaz part!). How did you manage it?

Re: LiveCD creation fails in 4.0 RCI

My original post related to difficulty in making an ISO once 4RC1 is up and running. I was looking for some creative guidance on correcting that problem.

I did experience some difficulties in burning a working live CD but eventually I got one to work the way it should. The next step, for me, would be to be able to burn a ISO after setting up Slitaz4 the way I like it so I would be able to boot with the that configuration. It is obviously desirable to operate entirely in ram.

As the OP, I would prefer that this post stay on the topic of burning an ISO!

@plumtreed

Is it essential for you to burn a CD or to get the new, changed iso-file after you made some changes to Slitaz? The latter is easy:

#tazlito writeiso - then the new rootfs.gz-file for the new iso is generated. It sits in /home/slitaz/distro/rootcd/boot and using isomaster you may get what you want quite quick. But you may use this new rootfs.gz as well by putting it onto your harddrive and boot from that file the next time - no need to burn a new CD.

(Here at home I never ever burn slitaz variations)

Re: LiveCD creation fails in 4.0 RCI

I see what you mean and I think it is a very clever solution.

I like to use Slitaz on an eeepc701 and to use it completely in RAM. It is preferential that no reference be made to the 'hard-drive' and nothing to retained on the 'machine' itself.

In earlier versions I would create an ISO, after setting it up the way I wanted it, then boot it when needed.

I use cloudy things so I don't retain anything on board but I would like avoid setting everything up each time, for example, wireless and even choice of wallpaper.

.....but, being a bit non-specific...........can't burn iSO  CD or to a USBdrive.....or even install to a SSD.
