Trying to get Cooking to boot ALL-THE-WAY on an eeePC701SDX

I am trying to get Slitaz cooking on to my eeePC 701SDX but the live cd boots to a 'welcome to your box' screen and an invitation...Slitaz login:

I had expected a Desktop such as I get when I boot to my laptop with the same live cd. I can boot the stable version, that is 3.0 xvesa, but I would prefer the cooking version because it is more current and also includes the driver needed for wireless on the 701.

Slitaz cooking on my laptop is brilliant and is clearly what the eeepc701 should have! Is there a solution????

(BTW en keyboard selection doesn't work and I have to select us)

Re: Trying to get Cooking to boot ALL-THE-WAY on an eeePC701SDX

This may work if you can connect the eeepc to the internet.

At console login as root password is root

tazx

Choose: xorg install or reconfigure Xorg

tazx script will tazpkg recharge if your connected to internet

Choose: intel driver

tazx should auto download/install all necessary tazpkgs and auto-configure graphics

To start x from console:

# /etc/init.d/slim start

slim uses .xinitrc

I'm running cooking full install on flash drive boot to desktop.

startx works on desktop, not on laptop.

laptop error:

Openbox-Message: Failed to open the display from the DISPLAY environment variable.

.xsession is identical with same permissions/owner:grp on both computers.

Re: Trying to get Cooking to boot ALL-THE-WAY on an eeePC701SDX

It seems difficult to get the eeePC on the net to try this. Since I have Cooking installed to a USB drive I thought I could try your solution via the laptop but it fell apart at the auto configure bit.

I get to the point, after entering /etc/init.d/slim start, where the reply is Starting slim login manager: Slim...          [OK]

Anyhow, thanks for the help

Re: Trying to get Cooking to boot ALL-THE-WAY on an eeePC701SDX

Repeated the process outlined above by Mojo, I have cooking(2.6.37) installed to 2GB USB drive which worked on my laptop but not my eeePC netbook. I followed the recommended process on my laptop then booted the USB drive on the eeePC. This time it worked. I booted thru to the Slitaz 'desktop' screen.

The required wireless driver for eeePCs is available on cooking.

Many thanks Mojo  I would say this prob is resolved for me smile

How do you mark a post as being solved?
